New Design useless to me

As a music supervisor I've used Allmusic for years and it has proven itself invaluable. Unfortunately the new design has rendered it totally useless to me. Sad...

Sorry about that Jack.
We really tried to incorporate as many things from the old AllMusic as we could.

I hope you can stick with the site and find ways to use it.

many things?? not all?? that means you took away from the content that made the website what it's SUPPOSED to be

As with every good site redesign there were a handful of things that got almost zero traffic from users and were largely out of date that did not make it over to the new design.

That said, we added a bunch of new things that should be helpful to users like the ability to listen to full songs and view similar albums as well as speeding up the site and offering more places to stream and purchase albums.

We're also looking to constantly make improvements to the site to make it as useful as possible.

Hope you'll stick with us,
Zac

Wait... *when* did the "speed up" occur? It's at least 50% *slower* than the old site due to the overuse of JAVA (quite possibly the *slowest* language ever). *Nothing* written in JAVA can be considered "faster". I use it all the time in my work and without exception *every* application that gets ported to JAVA slows down and becomes a major PITA to use.

I understand that changes to improve commercialism have to be made but I think that sometimes means 'value' is lost for regular users.
Judging from many of the comments I have been reading, and those I am adding, I don't think it is accurate to say, Zac, that the only things lost were, "...a handful of things that got almost zero traffic from users and were largely out of date..."
What was formerly a hugely useful reference site for music lovers, as well as a market place for music, is now far less informative but far more sales driven - perhaps that was the point of the re-design.
There are hundreds of comments from people who are unhappy about the frequently used functions that have been discarded - doesn't that say something important?

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your feedback. Was there specific information you were looking for that you cannot find within the new design?

One thing that we've found is that people were not used to the new design's placement of favorite features, but once they found the feature they were looking for, their satisfaction seemed to improve.

Some people have been unable to name what they were looking for, so it's harder to help them find it.

Hi Dawn, it's good to know someone has actually read my comments.
One of the things that seems to be missing (and I have already mentioned this under a different topic) is all the 'at a glance' info that used to show composers when you brought up a list of titles. If you go to the song tab for individual bands/singers and dig through, some songs have the composers name but that is a much more long-winded way of finding out something that used to be easy.
I often want to see if a song is the same one by many artists or find a different song with a common title, not just a different version. For example, there are 8,462 results for the title 'My Girl' and I know who wrote the well known one by The Temptations but how do I know who wrote the other 8000+ without spending hours looking at hundreds of pages. The previous layout let me scroll through rapidly and allowed immediate identification.
Perhaps I have missed something and you can direct me to the right place; I would be very pleased if you tell me there is a simple solution.

Thanks rootsmusic - I have just read throught the topic you suggested and it was very interesting.
I enjoy my music collection and I like to find out as much information as I can about each song. One of the reasons AllMusic has been so useful is the way I could cross-reference different versions of the same song or same-titled songs by different writers.
Real music fans, and their are millions of us, would love to find a place to research, preserve and share information across a wide range of musical tastes and eras.
It would be great to see this site developing and expanding rather than shrinking.

This is a known bug, and something we're working on fixing. It's not intentional, but it's not data that is currently delivered to us and we're trying to make it so.

This company update talks about the progress we've made so far.

I understand that it's not exactly what you're looking for, but we're doing what we can and that is definitely on the list. Thanks for stopping by!
