On Moderating Reviews

Why did AllMusic implement a "moderating review" policy and now it takes too long for a member's review to appear in the "User's Review" section of an album? There already is a "Report Inappropriate" option should a reviewer go out of line so why the new and annoying policy? I recently reviewed a recording hours ago and it has yet to appear on the recording's page in the site! It's considerate of AllMusic to have the review appear immediately in the reviewer's home page in the site but writing reviews is not just about self satisfaction but sharing. So it's very annoying when a reviewer's review doesn't immediately appear on the recording's page. I hope AllMusic brings back the previous system which was so much better. Thanks.

We had a real issue with people posting fraudulent, malware and spammy content into the user reviews. Additionally many people used the space intended for album reviews to sling mud at other users, revile the AllMusic editor and basically rant (in often very offensive ways) about anything and everything and not touching on the actual sound, content or feel of the album itself.

Because of these people acting in bad faith, we had to implement a moderation process beyond the "Report Inappropriate" flag.  We try to manually go through the backlog of reviews in moderation a couple times a day to remove anything offering penile enhancement pills or edit out anything glaringly cruel or off-topic to the actual reviewing of albums. Fridays are busier than usual.

Thanks for contributing your views on the albums.

As a side note, if you feel as though your recent review may not be actually covering the music on the album itself (the intended purpose of this user album review feature), it may be worth revisiting the contribution to ensure that your critical review is toward the music and not a criticism of an author.

Are user review feature is an avenue for expressing your criticism or enthusiasm for the album. We work hard to ensure that the reviews published by our community help other readers by offering new insights into the music available.

Thanks.
