Great news! I downloaded immediately. However, you may like to know that Facebook Connect login is not working on the Android App. When I click Facebook Connect it opens my phone's browser and takes me to Sidereel, which logs in just fine via fb. However, that process just loops. I have not been able to successfully log in yet.

UPDATE 10/10/11: Apparently I had both a regular account and a FB Connected account. I worked around the FB login issue by requesting a password reset on the web, then used new login and password to log in to the app, instead of FB.

I knew that would work but then I'm going to have to start from scratch I don't want to have to do that. They should just fix it.

Hi Tiffany - that won't force you to start from scratch! It will just allow you to access your Facebook-Connected SideReel account, if that account is the one you have your tracked shows on. If you have a different account (username + password) with your tracked shows, you should not use Facebook Connect at all.

I could not find it on the app market, so I got it from here, then emailed it to my phone......installed it from there. Barely any links other than to ABC, CBS etc

It's not in the Android market, so I emailed the link to my phone, and each time I tried downloading it I would receive the following error message- "Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone". I have a Samsung Galaxy S and have never encountered this issue before.

@cassmeister, I recieved the same error on my Droid X. Download the app on to your computer and then send the apk as an attachment in an email to your phone. This also applies to those who cant find it in the market and are asking how to download it as it is not in the market yet.

Hey everyone. Regarding installation of the app. It is NOT on Android Market. Here is how to install:

1) Before you do anything, on your Android phone, press your phone's menu button and go to Settings>Applications. Make sure that the "Unknown sources" box is CHECKED. Without this setting, you will not be able to install apps outside of the Android Market.

2) Open your phone's browser and navigate to http://www.sidereel.com/topic/android.

-Alternately you can email a link to this address to yourself and open it from your email.

2) Click on the download link. On some phones you will be prompted to install as soon as the download completes. If not, then you can either open the installation package (apk) from the Notifications screen or from your phone's Download folder.

I tried changing the settings as stated above and I still got the error "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." I have a new Samsung Replenish through Sprint. Any suggestions?

It is the same link as you have listed above. I have tried going in and typing your exact link above and it brings me to the same page. The download still does not work.

OK. So that means either your browser or the phone's default settings (from Sprint) are "blocking" the application somehow. Best way to get around this is to download the Astro file manager app from Android Marketplace. It's free and I already had it installed so maybe that's why I had no issues.

If, after installing Astro, you are still unable to download the Sidereel app, then open the Astro app, click menu and select More>>Preferences. Check "Enable Browser Downloads." Press the BACK button until you return to the HOME screen and re-attempt download of the Sidereel app.

I followed your instructions. I was able to download it after I changed that setting in Astro. Now when I click on the downloaded file it gives me the options "Display Directory" and "Cancel". The option for "Open File" is grayed out. What do I do next?

You have to go to Settings -> Applications and check the box for "Unknown sources" to install from an .apk

I tried that and it will download, but it still said it was an unknown file. It would not open after it downloaded.

Hi Melissa & Tiffany, do you have a regular login for your SideReel account (ie: username and password), or is it ONLY a Facebook-Connected account? If you don't mind providing your email or username, I can look you up in the system.

Hi Tiffany! That looks like a regular log-in account, not a Facebook-only account. Keep in mind that if it's a Facebook-only account, your username would be the same as your Facebook name (usually your full name). If you don't remember what your password is, I suggest requesting a new one so that you can log in to the app using your username and password.

Hi Steve! The app is designed to help you organize your tracker on the go and receive notifications for your shows, not necessarily allow you to watch TV from your phone. However, given the increasing flash capabilities of many mobile phones, this may be an option for future upgrades!

Hi, I've just downloaded the android sidereel. But I can't seem to login in. The error msg says that the infomation is incorrect even with the correct sidereel userid and password for the usual login. Meanwhile, I can still log in on my computer.

Hi mongo! By upcoming shows, do you mean brand-new shows that haven't premiered yet?

No, I guess a better way to phrase it would be Upcoming episodes. Ideally it would show the next 4-5 episodes of shows you are tracking, how many days till that episode will air, and the time of day it will air.

ex.
Community 3 days 8pm
Person of Interest 3 days 9pm
Fringe 4 days 9pm
etc

Hi mongo! Your tracker already shows when upcoming episodes of your favorite shows are airing! The countdown idea is cool, though! We'll definitely keep that in mind :)

Yes it does. The idea is to put the information from the tracker into an android widget that can be placed on the homescreen so you can see your tracker info at a glance without starting up the entire app.

I've got the app, and I'm using it happily.

I understand not having links to traditional flash-based websites to watch shows, but the Sidereel app should be able to detect and launch the Hulu Plus app for users who have it installed, when the show is available on Hulu. This seems like a (relatively) easy fix that would make users happy!

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet so i was all giddy about this app, until i realised you cannot click through to the shows and still need to log into the browser version (which works very poorly on the tablet).

Big disappointment. With so many Android tablets coming out, you really need to work on this.

Hi champouxv - you can indeed click through to the shows! The only main limitation is that you don't have access to all of the same links that are submitted to the site, due to the limited viewing capabilities of most mobile devices. The main function of the SideReel app is to take your tracker on the go, not necessarily watch your shows on the go.

the links, I meant you can't click on links.... I use a tablet for 90% of the time, I still watch my shows on it, but I have to go to the browser to find the links. They really need to be in the app.
