Neither Tunde Olaniran's new album 'Stranger' nor 'Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf' by  David Bowie, Eugene Ormandy and The Philadelphia Orchestra have ratings yet, despite having full reviews. Could a rating be added both?

Could you add both The KVB's 'Only Now Forever' and Uilab's 'Fires' to that request? Those ratings seem to be missing too.

Thanks for updating all the entries above. Two recent reviews from the same writer are missing ratings:

Galactic - Already Ready Already
Hedvig Mollestad Trio - Smells Funny

EDIT: The rating is also missing from new review for John Mayall's album - Nobody Told Me. Has the reviewer in question stopped attaching ratings to their reviews altogether?

Good to see The Japanese House's Good at Falling reviewed but it seems the rating was forgotten when it was recently uploaded.

The new review for J Balvin's 'Oasis' is missing a rating.

Also, the review that Liam Martin did for Little Simz' 'Grey Area' has vanished! What happened to it?

With the recent release of their album 'A Dawn to Fear', I was checking out Cult of Luna's discography. Amongst the studio albums it was surprising to find that Vertikal II has an unrated review.

There is also some information that is currently incorrect or missing from their discography. You might find the following helpful:

  • The band's self-titled debut was not released in 2003 but on September 14, 2001 according to the band's official Bandcamp [source]
  • Vertikal I & II is a 'compilation' of both Vertikal and Vertikal II. There isn't info on the band's site or the label's, likely because it was a limited release for Record Day (April 15, 2016). Details on it can still be found on reseller sites, such as 'Resident Music'. [source]
  • Mariner was released on April 8, 2016 according to their official Bandcamp [source] and is also very good album!
  • Years in a Day was set for release on April 21, 2017 according to a promotional video from the label's Youtube channel. [source]

Okay, I'm unsure about these are two unrated reviews. Both are quite short and written anonymously. Yet instead of just outlining the release details both describe and analyse the music involved:

DJ Shadow - Live! In Tune and On Time
Porcupine Tree - Nil Recurring

Just to follow up: I wasn't sure if you rated 'Allmusic Reviews by AllMusic' but it seems like there are many such reviews that are rated. For example, this one of 45:33 by LCD Soundsystem.

Since posting about the two releases above I've found around fifty more reviews by 'AllMusic' that are also unrated. Let me know if you would like to be notified of them.

Honestly it isn't necessary. The editors will sometimes just do a light amount of coverage to give some overall detail about an album without doing a real critical deep dive. Many of those will have an "overview" but not a real assessment of the quality of the music, and those may never get star ratings.

Surprised I never noticed this one before but Live at the Continental Club by Sonic Youth defintely has a review that seems to be worth rating. How about it?

Noticed that AllMusic upgraded over a hundred albums with five-star ratings over the weekend and that Max Richter was one of the lucky musicians highlighted. While checking his discography out I also noticed that one of his better releases is still unrated, despite having a review:

Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons.

On a side note, there were two recently released albums that don't have entries on AllMusic. It may be because they haven't had a physical release yet. Could you create entries for them anyway?:

Amon Tobin - Long Stories (source 1, 2, 3)
Caroline Polachek (solo album from Chairlift member) - Pang (source 1, 2)

We'll take a look.
Quick question: How were you alerted that these ratings changed? We've heard from a couple people who noticed, but is there a bot or service that tracks this stuff? Just curious.

No bots or other programs were involved. I was viewing the website on Saturday when I noticed one of the changes. Usually when your editorial team choose five-stars ratings for recent popular music releases, they update them for multiple titles all-at-once. I figured it was possible that other albums had also been re-rated and used your advanced search engine to locate all the changes.

Your search engine notes the graphic changes immediately but I've noticed it takes the system one week (or an upload of reviews) for the ratings to register numerically. Users can still easily find changes to ratings during this period by selecting the album's previous ratings. Here's an example:

While no-one will agree with every choice made, I generally think your editorial team did a top job with the albums they selected. I can't remember your team ever updating so many ratings at once!

It was good to see that some Album Picks have changed too, to accommodate these new ratings - Beyonce, Esperanza Spalding, Flying Lotus, Jazmine Sullivan, Meshell Ndegeocello - they all seem to have had their 'Picks' rearranged. The only glaring omission to me is Real Estate. Is it intentional that In Mind is still the Pick now that Atlas has retrospectively been given a much higher rating?

It would also be interesting if there was a practice of adjusting respective discographies when an album is upgraded to five stars. Especially if the artist doesn't have any other 4.5 or 4.0 star rated albums. For example, if Teen Dream by Beach House is now a five-star album then maybe it's also worth considering if the band's other albums like Bloom and/or 7 are worthy of being re-rated at 4.5 stars.

In any case, I don't want to come across as too nit-picky or demanding. Keep up the good work!

Not so much a missing rating but a missing review: is one in the works for Lil Wayne's new album, 'Funeral'? This isn't a request, more a curiosity. There's a preview in the 'Featured New Releases' section yet a review still hasn't been uploaded in the two weeks since its release.

On another note, can I request album entries for two new releases that aren't yet listed on AllMusic?:

A.A.L. (alias of Nicolas Jaar) - 2017/2019 [Official site - news posted 07 Feb 2020] [Spotify]
Tricot - 真っ黒 (latin text: 'Makkuro', or translated: 'Black') [Official site (in Japanese)] [Spotify]

Okay, please post the verdict here when you find out. Just located another one in Deerhunter's Microcastle/Weird Era Continued compilation. Don't worry about forwarding it on though until you find out whether the editorial team will rate these type of write-ups.

Terry Allen's Bottom of the World seems to have another one of these smaller write-ups that appraises the album. As the editorial team have now rated both the Lil Wayne and Sunn 0))) albums do you think it's worth forwarding this and the Deerhunter compilation on to them?

It's taken a while to find some more unrated reviews but here are a few for you:

Madonna - The Sticky & Sweet Tour
Norah Jones - Live in 2007
Radiohead - The King of Limbs: Live from the Basement

Also, did the missing rating for Terry Allen's Bottom of the World ever get looked into?

We're passing these on to our editors.

FYI:

We've used this GetSatisfaction service for many years but recently we got this email:

Dear ,

As you are aware, Sprinklr, Inc. (“Sprinklr”) acquired the assets of Get Satisfaction, Inc. (“Get Satisfaction”) as of March 31, 2015. Since then, Sprinklr has continued to maintain the Get Satisfaction platform as a stand-alone offering.

According to our records, you are currently using the Get Satisfaction platform and therefore we are reaching out to let you know that as of June 30, 2020, Sprinklr will no longer be offering or maintaining the Get Satisfaction platform.

So we're going to start using a very similar service called Helprace which seems to have a lot of the same functions:

Thanks for passing on the information and letting me know about your new forum. Hopefully the move will be one for the better. And even if it isn't, I'll at least make sure that you'll continue to get bombarded with requests. :P
