Songs (highlights/all) listings are missing both information and functionality.

If one visits the artists songs tab the songs are not sortable nor are they presented in alphabetical order. Missing too is composer and album information. This is true for both all songs and highlights. I only checked two pages but assume it exists universally.

We'll add some sorting functionality to both tabs and we are investigating how to best display composer information on these tabs.

As far as showing album info on the song tabs, it gets tough. If you were looking at Miles Davis' song list and "Blue in Green" has been on 15 or 20 albums, it isn't always easy to show a single album in that list. We prefer to encourage users to click through to the Song Page to see all of the appearances.

Does that help?

List the first album it appeared on. That's all. Maybe a link for "also appears on..."

Makes sense.

I often make use of the click through model now on the old site. I was just comparing functionality between versions and noted something was missing.

There may be some value in adding an instruction note telling users to click through to see all albums. Or mining the data for the first appearance of a song and presenting that album - and then indicating one should click through to see the entire list.

From a user UI/presentation perspective all that white space between song title and song review makes one thing something is missing. ;-)

Thanks for the good work and feedback.

Functionality requirement: The system shall provide the user the option to display all songs.

... not requiring the user navigate through many pages of songs.

Hi Larry,
This unfortunately was a technical issue we needed to put into place.
For some prolific artists (Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Bing Crosby) we needed to make a huge request to pull back data for thousands of songs.

This was causing performance issues across the site so we needed to put in the pagination for artists' song tabs.

Usability:
Add page navigation controls to top of song listing, also. Having them only at the bottom of the listing requires me to scroll to the bottom before selecting the next page. An unnecessary, extra step.

I really miss the "Songs composed by..." tab on the Artists pages. It was a tool I used for my work in managing cover songs for a radio show, and without that functionality, your site just isn't useful at all.

It's like Webster's deciding to create a new, slick, version of their Dictionary, but sorting the words by popularity and not in alphabetical order. Your site's new look has taken what used to be a very comprehensive and robust database, and stripped it down to a bare minimum of album information that can be found elsewhere on the web.

That information still has to be in your database - can you provide an interface for accessing it?

Hi Brian,
As I type, we're working on adding/reintegrating composer info into more AllMusic pages. Coming soon to the search results (a feature I'm personally very glad to see return), and more areas TBD.

Thank you for using AllMusic!

I like the suggestion to add navigation at the top of the list, but can we do away with page numbers? They are not the least bit helpful. Try the alphabet. It's really quite the guessing game trying to figure out what page "No More Mr Nice Guy" might be on. But if I could click "N", or even "L to O" or something like that, life would be so much easier. And I know your main goal is to make my life easier. :)

I understand the restriction on not being able to list all songs on one page, but how about more than 20? 50 maybe? 100?

Hi SaladGoat,
Actually, one of our goals is to make your AllMusic-browsing life easier. Song navigation by letter rather than page number is definitely something we've been talking about, as well as the possibility of listing more songs per page.

Thank you for the feedback, and for using AllMusic!

With the old allMusic, you could click on a composition, at least for jazz, and see all the recordings that cover it; not just by the original composer, but any other musician who might have recorded the same tune. This is really important for jazz. Why can't this function be in the new site?

Thankfully, you can still look up an artist and see any recording that may have even a remote connection to him/her. Thank you. I'd just like the same functionality for individual songs, like the old site had.

Several years ago folks were asking about the ability to filter anĀ artist's songs by letter.

I'm glad to say we've been able to implement that (finally).

Cheers, SaladGoat!
