Songwriter Identification when searching by song.

I am a long time fan and user of all music. I have been reviewing the new Beta site and generally like it. Love the integration with Spotify. One of the things I use All Music for is to identify songwriters of certian songs. In the Beta, when I put in the name of a song, I don't see where the songwriter is easily identified. Maybe I am missing something.

Keep up the good work.

Agreed.
We're looking into better ways to expose Composer/Songwriter in more places. We don't have a quick fix now, but we're looking at it.

Is this ever going to be fixed? Since the launch of this new format it's been a pain finding covers of songs. On the old system (even after not being able to sort on the composer) one could still go through page by page and see the composers, and thus figure out it it was a cover or a different song. I wasn't happy when AllMusic stopped letting us sort by composer because it took ten times longer, but at the information was there - without having to click, click, click and then find out the composer still wasn't there. The biggest problem I see is that AMG has no competition. There isn't anywhere else we can go to get this information quickly and reliably. So they have us by the short hairs. Reps, like Zac Johnson keep saying they are working on it and that the info exists on the song pages. Well, maybe and maybe not. I've found more song pages without the songwriter info than with it. PLEASE do something about this. I feel like I've been incapacitated to where I can't do my work any more. Maybe some database-codewriting-entrepeneur could find some investment money and hire the bunch of us who are complaining so loud to input data and start a website geared to the pro who needs ALL the information.

I sympathize with the posters, however - I've found a way around "just the composer(s) name ID" issue. Type in the song title (no artist) and see the results for "ALBUMS" then just pick one result to see the track list. Some albums have the composer names under the songs, some do not, but move on, with the choices of albums by artists (maybe not the one you want) you'll find what you're looking for. My alternate for some song titles: www.jazzstandards.com is an excellent source for older songs in the nostalgia category where i do my research work. Not everything is going to be perfect - innovate and find a solution peacefully. AllMusic is a valuable site, thanks for being online you guys (and gals). Cheers!..

Hi guys,
This is absolutely still on AllMusic's horizon but had to be put on the back burner for the past six weeks while the dev team built new sister site celebified.com from the ground up. Now that Celebified has launched (go take a look!), we're planning the next phase of cool things for AllMusic, which includes providing composer/songwriter info in more places.

Thank you for using AllMusic!

You need to keep the songwriter information somewhere for these songs. So far, I'm not liking this new design. Please provide songwriter information.

A couple folks have been asking for the Songwriter information and we're looking into exposing it in more places.

Composer/Songwriter info exists on the Album pages (in the track list) http://www.allmusic.com/album/loveles... but are missing from the song search results and on the Song pages.

Thanks for the feedback.

Where has all the composer information gone?! I use All Music daily in my work to locate composer information, and this new design makes finding that information even more difficult that before. All Music used to be an amazing resource. I had recently recommended your site to a colleague and I now regret it given how drastically less helpful your site just became. I usually have no problem adapting to site redesigns, but this is not an issue of a change in aesthetics; the entirely functionality of the site has changed, and it seems you've chosen to eliminate vast amounts of useful information.

Same Song Title, Different Composers -- Under the old design, if one typed in a song title, a list of links to albums containing that title would appear, along with the performer name and (in most cases) the name of the composer. This was useful because there are many songs with the same title but written by different composers, and one could then focus on the subset of recordings by the composer that one was really interested in. Under the new layout, as far as I can tell, if you type in a song title, all you get is a list of performers who sing that song title. Now, the only way to determine who the composer is is to click on each individual link one at a time. Thus, if there are 100 recordings of the song but only 3 are by the composer of interest, one has to review 100 different pages to find out that only 3 pages were relevant. Am I missing something? Is there a way to have the composer of the song displayed when one is searching by song title?

in a specific song page - where did the info on composers of the song go to?
also, in the album page, in a case of "vasrious artists", the info shown below each song is the performer and not the composer.

thanks

Correct. This was always the case on AllMusic. On Various Artist Albums and Soundtracks we list the performers who perform each of the songs (not the composers).

Okay, the information is still there. Thanks for the pointer.
Hate to use the word but, "but"-
In the old style, I could look for an artist, pinpoint the song under songs listed and find the album as well as the composer. Now I either have to know which album the song is on already or I have to go look through each album by the artist to discover the composer. Not efficient :( While I could look up the song name, that doesn't always work efficiently either (have you noticed how many songs start with "Blue"? And then finding the artist out of that? And then finding the song/composer? Not efficient that way either)
Other than this issue, I do like the new interface. I'm sure it was a lot of work to get in place and it will take a while for us to get used to it. If you can make composers more visible, this would certainly help. Thank you.

Amen, Brother!! The real value of the web site IS the identity of composers along with the artist's pictured album where the song is recorded. Frankly, there is too much diversion during my visits to AllMusic.com that is not essential to my task to find the composer and lyricists of a song - and I'm not looking for "today's" hit music because my work is with the "standards" and legendary artists / jazz performers and, in this regard AllMusic excels!!

Please allow us to have the option for a site visitor to choose old or new format, it's really that simple - a click one or click two choice, forget going to "album" - no need to re-develop the web site to accommodate the text from the folks I'm reading here. It's just like Yahoo! did a couple or web page changes ago, they offered a link to use the "old" web page design and it works. The Tweets, Facebook and iPhone apps to find the information are not needed in my case, put it on the AllMusic website like it used to be. Thanks ever so for "working on it" now, let's have at it!! Cheers!

I liked be able to find writer's credits for individual tracks. It was one of the best sources on the web for this kind of information. I used it when entering data into iTunes. Can you bring it back?

We're working on this! In the meantime, it may help to check an album where that song is included, and look for the composers there.

This new design sucks pretty bad, but it's taken away functionality. I used allmusic.com so much over the years to find out who wrote a particular song. After you searched for a song, the results page showed a list sorted by count of the song, grouped by the songwriter/composer.

Now I can't seem to find out who wrote any of the songs on the site! If I'm missing something, please let me know. As an example, search for the tune Autumn Leaves. Then tell me if you can find out who wrote that tune, using allmusic.com (not Googling it!).

Sucks!!

Composer not included in Song search results. Adding this information helps one to distinguish between the recordings of the song in question and and those of other songs that share the same title. Also, it would be nice to be able to sort said results by composer.

Several years ago I used to be able to search on a song title, get a list of everyone that recorded a song with that title, sort by composer(s), and be able to make a list of who covered the song. Later, the ability to sort by composer was removed after an "upgrade" which made it harder for me to find the covers of the song I was working on, but I did it by looking at every composer on every listing, and at times having to go to the album page to see if it was the correct song. Now, in AllMusic Beta, when I search on a song to find covers, the composer is nowhere to be found. The only thing that shows under the title of the song is the artist. This is really going to hurt me and my work. Isn't there some way that the composer(s) can be listed and sorted now? I'm very disappointed by this new design.

i too am using this site for my work (music copyright organization) and this slows me down a great deal, to have to search these details in each and every album. the different releases of each album differ from each other in composer details' availability - some have it and some don't, so if you don't see all the results in the main album page, keep looking, it night be in one of the other releases.

Same here - I am not at all interested in releases, but need information about who wrote what song daily for my work. The old site was much more useful and practical. Please sort this out as soon as possible. Looking for authors by album is terribly time-consuming!

It seems that the authors and composers of the songs do not appear in AllMusic Beta. This feature made one of the differences between Allmusic and the rest of similar sites. I should be very grateful whether you could please restore it. Congratulations for this new lovely version!

Hi Paty,

Unfortunately, the old version of AllMusic was rapidly becoming rickety, as it was based on ever more outdated technology. There's really not a way that we could have left it up and running any longer. However, we are working on bringing back that composer information. Thanks for stopping by!
