PLEASE PLEASE STOP videos that play automatically!!!!!!!!.
More than likely, while on your site about music, one might, possibly. just maybe have music streaming. With those fucking videos that pop on and play at the same time as streaming music. Fucking please get rid of these.

Hi Damien,
Sorry about this.

Can you tell me the content of the ad you heard?
What was the company that was advertising?

Also, if you could tell me where you are located in the world, it will help us track this bad ad down.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Does it matter what the ad was for or where I am?

I have been using AllMusic for a decade, i SWEAR by this site. I, at one time, had hundreds of albums rated and always tell people that this is the best review site on the web.

The fact that ANY ad that pops up with audio or video is awful.
I stream music constantly from my computer. When any website either has automatic video/audio ads on it i stop going to that website - period.

This ad was a rollover ad, for ESPN - incredibly targeted, i use the ESPN site daily - so great work to you and google for micro-targeting something I already go to daily.

The fact is any ad that plays audio or video is AWFUL, it is usually louder than the music and is beyond annoying to anyone who streams music. And as a wesbite that is about music, actually has Spotify/Rdio - you gotta admit that those two are not compatible - right?

I understand how important ads are, I have no problem with you and All Music making a SHIT TON of money - I want this site around. BUT STOP the audio/video ads.
Or at least have them as on MUTE as a default

please, please give me the mute option

Understood.

Information about which ad it is and where you are from helps us narrow down which ad it is and where the ad is being served. If you are using AllMusic from Germany and it is an ad for Timex watches, this information helps us identify how to take it down. That's why I asked for that info.

This ESPN ad has been the bane of my existence since we can't seem to track down how it is coming in.

Thanks.

Dude, it's nearly all your ads... don't be so naïve!  I, like Damien have been loyal to your site for many years and am frankly not happy with these audio-backed adverts whatsoever.  All you have to do is ask your Web geeks to do a quick search on all video content, reset the audio defaults and voila... no more problem!  I'll even write you a quick and dirty SQL code if you like.. good gawd man!

Oh man, I wish it was as easy as looking in a MySQL table and just toggling the audio to "off" but that is not the way ad networks operate.

I understand your frustration. Here's a bit of how the process works and how we can try to solve the issues you've brought up.

At AllMusic we do not have relationships with each and every one of the ads you see on the site, nor do we store all of the ads in a table.  We work with multiple ad vendors (Google AdExchange, Pubmatic, Undertone, Adthusiast to name just a few).

We have specific guidelines that we ask our ad vendors to follow:
  • No autoplay audio ads.
  • No pornographic ads.
  • No ads for gambling sites.
  • No ads for dating sites.
  • If we do a "Page Takeover" ad (the ads that show over the full screen) they need to have a clear close button and they should only show up once per user per 24 hour period.
These ad vendors in turn have multiple providers around the world in different regions that *they* work with, so in this game of telephone with guidelines, policies and rules, things can get missed (or just not implemented correctly).

This is why you will sometimes see our guidelines not followed properly. This is also why we may ask questions like "Which ad was offensive?" and "Where are you located?"  By learning which ad is violating our guidelines we can better get it shut off. If you are accessing AllMusic from Germany or Japan or Australia, you are likely getting ads that we will never be served in the States, so the information you can provide is very helpful in getting the ad shut off.

However, it will be replaced with another rollover ad.

at the very minimum, All Music should have an option that if you sign in/are a member - that you can automatically, site-wide have an option to turn off auto play or roll over ads with video or audio.
This option rewards loyal customers by removing the annoyance of the ads.
You still get to have them - i know 97% of the web is "ad-supported", i understand that, but All Music should reward its members with the abililty to turn these ads to mute or to never play.

thanks

Get rid of the audio on your adverts!.

Most of us visit your site to find music, read about music, discover music, while at the same time listening to music... so why the assault on our senses by your senseless, insensitive, lack of caring for our enjoyment by posting adverts with AUDIO ON! Let us decide whether we want to listen to that drivel.

automatic play of video ads with audio is harassment.

These f^%^%%(% video ads that play automatically are SO F*%^^%^) annoying. I am working on digitzing my vinyl / cassette music collection and the capability to listen to what I am working on at the time is absolutely critical to this process. This UNWANTED intrusion of the video/sound playing automatically is UNWANTED and an Intrusion on my peace and quiet. The Fact that I have STOPPED what I am working on to provide YOU FEEDBACK should be a small hint to how much I hate this. I have clicked the MUTE button, but that only works for that specific video, when the next one starts, it blares out again and I have to interrup what I am working on to mute it yet again. - In short this is aform of harassment. How would you like it if I spoke up over your computer every couple of minutes and you would have to find where I am at and then turn my voice off. Annoying at the very least and a form of harassment - Stop IT! I can be reached at daninky@hotmail.com - and another one JUST started - this is very F&^&%^% Frustrating - stop the BS already.
