What are you doing to avoid link-rot?

You have changed the ID system, and invalidated existing bookmarks and links into the site: as a Wikipedia volunteer, I am rather disturbed at the prospect of fixing thousands (and no, I am not exaggerating: a quick and dirty search reveals that there are more than 5000 links from Wikipedia into this site, and we haven't finished converting the old AMG "sql format" links yet!)

So what are you going to be doing about supporting legacy URLs? Also, is there a reasonably easy way to work out a "new" URL from an "old" URL?

We are already working on redirecting all of the existing AllMusic links to redirect to the proper page using the new URL structure. This was a major concern for us so we wanted to make sure we weren't losing any traffic by using this new system.

Thanks for your concern.

my excel data base has thousands of hyperlinks to your sites. Do they stay in tact?

will the hyperlinks be the same?.

Zac, I just posted a similar concern under the title (roughly) "Will AllMusic's url's change?" Like NotACat, I've used AllMusic as a reference on numerous Wikipedia articles. Deadening the links involved would destroy literally hundreds of hours of work, make Wikipedia less useful and effectively shut down the resulting traffic these links on Wikipedia generate for your website. I'm encouraged by your response and hope the enhancements AllMusic is undertaking have a minimal effect in this regard. Otherwise, I'm pleased with the look and feel of what I've seen so far. Thanks.

We're painstakingly aware of the value of ensuring that the legacy links still get users to their desired destination. We're ensuring that they remain intact via 301 redirects and rel canonicals.

Do you plan to change the url's on your articles and search result pages? I've been using AllMusic extensively as a source on Wikipedia, adding hundreds and hundreds of reference links to various music articles, thus my concern.
