When do we get an android app? I use the site when I'm shopping for records, and it would REALLY help if there was an app.

Hi John,
Thank you for your feedback. There is no bigger agenda holding us back from doing an Android app, just the reality that we have limited resources. We are planning to develop a mobile-friendly version of AllMusic.

Yes, an Android app would be ideal. Android is very very popular now. Love this site while shopping for records.

Hi Andrew,
While we still have no plans to develop an Android app, we are currently working on a redesign of the website. This will be built on responsive design, meaning the site will adjust to fit the screen of whatever device it's being viewed from. To see an example of responsive design in action, check out one of our affiliate sites, celebified.com.

Thanks!

Discogs eh? Thanks for the suggestion Funny Papa. I've been wondering about an alternative to allmusic seeing as there's no Android app or mobile site. Will check this out for sure. It's a shame I can't use the site I know & love while on the go but what's a girl like me to do? Thanks for alienating a large part of your user base allmusic, great job!

Discogs saved me on Record Store Day. Atleast they are trying and listening what customers want.

Hi Joonas,
As you may have missed in the replies before you, we're working on a sitewide redesign which will autofit to the screen of whatever device you're browsing from. We think this will be more impactful than an Android app because all users regardless of device will be able to benefit from it, plus no additional download is required; your phone's browser will work like an app.

Thanks!

Chrysta, while I'm certainly happy to hear that the website is being redesigned to work for all browsers/devices (as any good website should be!), there are some great things which can be done with a dedicated app. Imagine how people might use an app differently from web browser (on a computer at home). I actually think the current website works well when I'm at home, needing to look up info about an artist/album.

When I'm at a store, considering a purchase (or at the library, wanting to select music to listen to), it's more difficult to bring up a web browser on my phone, type in the URL for All Music, load the website, enter the thing I'm wanted to search for, and then select the results from a list on another webpage on my phone and display it. Even with a device-friendly website, there are still enough hoops to jump through that I'm going to have to be fairly desperate for the information in order to do that.

Advantages of an app are that it instantly goes to the source - no need to pull up a browser on the phone and then type the URL or select a bookmark. Also, input can be streamlined by allowing an app to scan in a barcode or picture of the album cover, etc. That may take some doing, but it's still the way an ideal All Music app would work. I'm sure there could be other features added which I'm not even thinking of at this moment.

So, while I can't complain about the free service which All Music is providing to us, I can also see how an app would be beneficial.

Hi John,
Thank you for your feedback. The wishlist of things we'd like to do greatly exceeds our development resources, so there are still no plans for an Android app. You raise good points, but I think you'll find the redesigned site beneficial. The mobile version will be sleeker so you won't have to page through as much content to access the info you want, and if you want to access AllMusic within a couple clicks from your phone, you can add a web shortcut to your device's screen.

Good point about using a web shortcut. I guess I'm spoiled in that most websites/services I use have their own app, so I don't often consider that option. That would make it a little quicker.

I was just going to say that. It's easy to make a shorcut with Dolphin that you can access from your home screen.

Folks:
Take a look at our mobile-responsive site: http://beta.allmusic.com/

This design is built to function on a mobile device (including Android).

If you have specific feedback on our mobile design, I'd love to hear about it in this forum.

Thanks,
Zac

Hey AllMusic team!

Having started this thread a year ago, I wanted to thank you all for consistently responding to our questions. And also for developing this new version of the website.

I'm still in the process of checking it out thoroughly, but on first blush it seems great. It's what we were looking for.

Only 1 issue I can find: the "song review" sections are loading strange on my phone. I'm using chrome browser on my Galaxy SIII. The text is off screen to the right. I need to rotate the phone sideways to read the text.

No other issues that I've found. Thanks again!

Hi pmcgarrity,
We've been working on fixes to the mobile layout of the song pages.
it's not 100% there yet but edging closer:

By the time we're out of Beta it should be all the way there.

Thanks for your kind response and for sticking with us.

Not really shocking, given the replies Zac and I have provided throughout this thread. ;)

Anyway, the recent redesign of the website autofits to your browsing device's screen size, so for an applike experience all you need to do is add an AllMusic.com shortcut to your home screen:
Android - http://www.maketecheasier.com/pin-boo...
iPhone - http://www.macpac.com/pages/blog/2013...
Windows - http://www.ehoundplatform.com/blog/ho...

No, it's not really that shocking ;)

Appreciate the efforts to make the mobile website. Not too worried about having a web shortcut on the home screen, can just open up the browser. I personally would prefer an app, but I understand that this is more work than the website. What I did have problems with was Opera Mini. It didn't play well with Single column mode, which is what I use all the time.

With regards to the website, I prefered it before the upgrade. From a user perspective I cannot see any advantages here.

Love the new site. Yes, it did take a little getting used to, but now works great. My favourite site.
