Where are the Composers for songs on compilation albums? They seem to be completely missing from the new UI.

Composers for songs on compilation albums seem to have been completely deleted from the new new user interface.

Similarly, song composers no longer appear on the list of search results for a song. That's a big miss in cases where a song title has hundred or more of versions.

Finally, the ability to sort search results seems to be gone. Another big miss when you are potentially looking among 100 or more results for a particular item.

What's really needed to fix all these and similar issues is an "Advanced Search" capability similar to that on Amazon.

All-in-all the new version might be more slick looking, but a bunch of useful functionality has been deleted. Very frustrating.

Hi. Even on the old version of the site, performers replaced composers on Various Artists albums.

We are working to replace composers on a song search, however.

Sorting search results existed long ago on the old site, but had been removed to speed up the search process on a site that had outgrown its web architecture. It is something we're looking at bringing back in the future.

The site is always a work in progress. Thank you for your feedback: we definitely read the comments on here and consider them when working on the site!

I'd have to say that the site is more accurately described as a work in flux, or in change for the sake of flash, but not a work in progress. The last 4-5 years have seen more retrogression than progress. Point in particular: why do you now have a relatively small, dark-toned space to type in search parameters? It used to be obvious, top center, a prime feature. Now it's almost a reluctantly-granted feature. It seems that most recent changes have been in the direction of making the user conform to the site, rather than having the site work for us. I still visit, but without much of the pleasure (and success) to which I'd become accustomed.

Hi Dawn,
Thank you for the timely follow-up.

Under the prior version, it's true that Composers were not necessarily listed on the track list page for a "Various Artists" album. However, you could click on any track from an album, and go to a song detail page that included Composer(s) along with title, performer plus a concise and useful list other albums with the same track.

Now, on a Various Artists album, when you click on a track, you get only a list of album icons with the same track - NO COMPOSER (or any other info).

The worst case occurs when searching for info about an obscure artist/song that perhaps has ONLY been released on "Various Artists" compilation albums. As things stand now on the Allmusic site, there seems to be NO ACCESS at all to the composer information for such a song.

For example, take the surf music compilation album "Let's Go Trippin' " and try to find the composer(s) for the song "Chicago Green" by the obscure 60's surf band The Surfaris. As far as I can tell, even if that info is in the Allmusic database, it cannot be accessed by a user via the current implementation of the UI; whereas in the past that was a no-brainer, despite the fact that the album, artist and song are not even remotely mainstream.

But separate from such a worst case example, it's just a whole lot of extra search work to get to composer info for songs on a Various Artists album - something that was quite straightforward previously. As a guy who often uses the site up to two hours per day, I find it extremely annoying to have useful functionality removed after someone had already done all the work of developing and deploying it.

Thanks for your attention.

I completely agree with mefcc on this issue.

The new site does not list the composer (and links) for any of the songs like the old one did.

I'm sure the composers would not be very happy if they knew that they are not being given the credit they deserve.

Please fix this soon.

Based on your feedback and requests, this has been solved:

We are now showing performers and composers in the track lists for all albums (including Various Artist Albums, Soundtracks, DJ Mix albums and Split Albums).

Today we rolled out an updated version of our search results page that displays composer/songwriter info within song search results wherever it is available in our data.

More info is here:
