You need a way to narrow or categorize searches.

I wish you would provide a way to narrow searches by category. For example, I wanted to search for a *song* called "Rolling Stones." It has nothing to do with the *band* called The Rolling Stones. When I search for "Rolling Stones" I get pages and pages of information about the band, and this is not what I want. How can I eliminate it?

Hi Jim,
We provide the option to filter search results by All, Artists, Albums, Songs and Compositions. Run your search, then select which of the aforementioned type of results you want to see, by clicking the link toward the upper left of the page:

If you aren't seeing this on the site, let me know.

Thanks!

Hey Jim,
I see what you're saying. Our search seems to be prioritizing the artist name over the exact title of the song you're looking for (even when you narrow it down to filter just on Songs).

We're working with our search folks on getting a higher priority placed on exact text matches.

This may seem a bit late but we've been working on a new search algorithm that relies more heavily on exact match.
You can find songs titled "Rolling Stones" here: http://www.allmusic.com/searchtest/songs/Rolling+Stones

More info about our new search is available here: http://www.allmusic.com/blog/post/allmusic-search-beta

Many of our users have asked for more exact results in search and we've recently rolled out some functionality that enables exact string matches on AllMusic.

By putting your word or string in quotes, we try to find the exact match within search results.
