Adding mixer to Alto Live 1604

HI

I have a Live 1604 and now suddenly realise I am short of a few inputs. Our band configuration is as follows:

a) Drums 7 mics
b) Guitar 1 Mic
c) Bass -- DI XLR
d) Vocals 3

Thus, I need 2 additional XLR inputs.

How can this be achieved? If I have to add another mixer, would the Alto ZMX series be any inferior to the Live series? What would be the pros and cons of adding another ZMX series vs Live series.

  • Hi James,

    Thanks for posting!

The Live and ZMX series are both very reliable, though it's probably going to be easier to find a Live mixer these days. Either one is a safe bet, but I personally prefer the sound and feel of the Live series.

As far as daisy chaining mixers, with the right planning it should be fine. I would personally avoid it if possible but it could certainly work. You'd probably want an additional Live 802 for enough mic preamps, but really any mixer that enough pre's would work. One benefit to another Live series mixer is you already know how they work since it will be ultimately the same as working with a 1604. Not that mixer workflow varies a whole lot but it could help.

In the end, you would be making a sub mix on this extra mixer and running it to a stereo channel on the 1604 (13/14 or 15/16). I would try to keep this as a vocal only mixer so you can make this a nice neat vocal submix.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions!
