Faulty channel on APX 1500

Hi. I have an ALTO PROFESSIONAL set of P.A./DJ system consist of (APX 1500 Power Amp, x2 SX115 speakers and 16 Channel ZMX 164 Mixer) at first the whole system was working great until it first blown each of its x2 treble/tweeter speakers so i replaced them with HT40s from Hybrid with the same Ohms and Watts. It workes good and all of a sudden it was overloading and the next thing when i played piano on loud volume it then blown the Low frequency speaker on Channel 2... i then replaced the LF speaker with same ohms and watts but then channel 2 on the power Amp is now having this strange noise like a no signal radio frequency kinda noise and it doesn't output the sound even when i used different cables and speaker. So now it seems like channel 2 on my power amp is faulty too... how can i fix this???? Please help

  • Like you I have been DJ'ing but maybe a little earlier than you since 1974, I have found paying more always works for me being more reliable, currently been running Yamaha P series amplifiers for 19 years with no trouble, mind you they do cost a bit more and they don't stick a 'Professional' label on them, lol? I also run PD drivers (Precision Devices made here in the UK) which are also fitted in Pro audio and PA hire company's cabinets, again a lot more money, but you will never need to replace them, unless your a nutter and love seeing red lights.

I looked up the spec for your SX115 and its only uses a 4 ohm 300 watt RMS driver, you would be better off fitting an Eminence Delta15 rated at 400 watt RMS (£85) or a 4 ohm Eminence Kappa 15LF (£114) both will sound twice as loud for the same volume setting, what you have to consider that you would never see any Alto cabs with PA hire companies, having said that ALTO are good value for your buck, that's all I can say.

I'm on this forum answering to people like yourself where I'm am inundated with the same argument with burnt out drivers and tweeters, the answer is either don't drive them hard or sell them and pay out more for JBL. FBT, EV, OHM, RCF or if you have deep pockets Function One. just please avoid Skytec, Evolution Audio, Numark, SubZero, QTX, LIVE, FORTISSIMO and Vonyx, all of which are cheap and cheerful, and be careful there are 2 companies with similar names D&B Audiotechnik which is one of the best sound systems around whereas db Technologies would be on the same league as Alto.
As you can see the 'Yamaha Amp Rack' plus the 21" subs, 18" bass cabs then the twin 10" mids & twin compression horns in one cabinet, its rather heavy but when stacked up you don't need stands, which I hate, the larger horns on top is from a larger system. I keep all this in my man cave till a gig comes up. lol
