I own stock and was convinced I was part of the most progressive , forward thinking company.

Hope 2012 is amazon.pt time

They shouldn't open an amazon.pt...remember you'd have to pay the 23% VAT. Better for them to have a warehouse here, not a branch of the company.

If you buy goods from amazon uk or orders fulfilled by amazon over the value of £25 postage to Portugal is free. All goods must qualify for free super saver delivery and you must remember to tick the box for this when completing your order.
Some items cannot be delivered to this location but books, dvds, small elecrical items are not a problem. It is worth noting that many orders for used books are fulfilled by amazon. This means amazon package and post the items and they qualify for the free delivery,

I would like very much for this to happen. It would be so convenient for buying foreign language books, in Portugal. The main advantage would probably be reduced shipping costs and time.

Oh yes, please please and please!

Im so tired of paying more on shipping costs than the product itself. And some products would certainly be cheaper, there's a market!! We Portuguese like shopping... a lot so, c'mon, bring it on!!

It's about time. Portuguese market represents a humongous gateway into european market. French amazon is faulty and for some reason, French people don't use amazon very much...
Portuguese people alone would buy a lot from an hypothetical amazon.pt, they already buy a lot from amazon.com and .uk, plus, with the Spanish market and the Italian market it would be a very good business idea.

It would be kind of pointless to have a Portugal-oriented amazon at this time since they have already started shipping most of their products here (which wasn't the case 9 months ago).

Why does no one from the Amazon ownership / management respond to ideas such as this ?
EG there may be some technical reason why not ? Or an issue of the size of the market : it is all very well to say the world population of Portuguese speakers is large but most of them are in Brazil. If amazon.co.uk shipped at reasonable costs to Portugal / Mozambique etc. that would probably do the job.
It would be interesting / useful to know the thinking behind why amazon sets up in some countries and not others.
Presumably taxation and reliability of postal service are factors.

If you buy things above 28 euros at Amazon.co.uk you don't pay shipping, so it's always cheaper to buy there than in an portuguese Amazon, at least the taxes are lower, the products are always cheaper. And now in 2011 they will raise IVA to 23%...

Yes, things have changed so much that now it doesn't make a difference if we're ordering from the UK or not. Actually, it's even better than ordering from any portuguese online store I know since they all charge for shipping.

Two years ago, however, super saver delivery wasn't available to portugal and neither were some kinds of products.

I buy a lot from Amazom, Ebay etc.
My problem buying from UK is just related to products that must be connect to power, because of the obvious difference is the plugs.
I'm just making the Pre-Order of the PS4, but I will not buy it from UK (Because of the Different Plug); I will not buy it from US (Because of Portuguese Customs. And I don't care about payment the Tax, is just the time that it takes and sometimes the lost Items).
I will buy it from Germany.
