  • Hi Ivana - Can you search for "Building a Faster Webstore" within Seller Central? That should bring up a link to the help topic, too

  • Hi Yvonne,
Unfortunately that doesn’t work. See image attached.

  • Hi Ivana

If you have not got this sorted yet I have the solution. You need to copy the link and then change the amazon.com to amazon.co.uk, this should bring up the UK version.

Sometimes it does not work but 90% of the time it does.

  • Hi Quentin,

Could you please send me the link as you suggest it should look like?

Also, is there a more substantial manual for using the editorial widget then the one provided on the 'Learn more' link of the actual widget, as the commands seem to be a bit temperamental and I get frustrated with them very quickly?

    Regards,
    Ivana

See how I have changed the .com to .co.uk?

Like I said not all pages will work when you do this but most do.

What exactly are you trying to do? I have found it easier to code stuff in an external editor and then just use the HTML widget rather than try using the editorial widget but thats down to my personal preference.

  • Good, thank you, that works.
I was only trying to make my contents pages look the same using the template provided by the editorial widget. I find that the grey text boxes (title) do not display in Internet explorer. Also the text is not easy to format and it seems to break in places I didn’t want it to. The tables are uncontrollable as well. When I finally manage to achieve the desired look on saving I get the little red exclamation mark which sends me to despair as there's no explanation what it means.
I found that linking in between pages does not work. On my homepage I placed 3 smaller images as links to categories pages but when clicked they were displaying seller’s central log in page. So then I had to go out and hyperlink the images to the addresses as they display when browsing the site on outside. I am not sure if that is a good idea.
It’s all sorted for now but it would nice to know for the future.
What external editor do you suggest for HTML coding?

  • I will start with the easy answers!

I use notepad++ as the editor, is good layout but it doesn't give you any help as something like dreamweaver might.

Without looking at your site I couldn't tell you where you were going wrong with the links, maybe you could post your site address so we could take a look?

The red crosses are very annoying, generally they mean there is dangerous HTML inside. This is what it says for nearly all custom HTML so don't be put off by that. Your content should come up as you want it in the preview. I know that there is a correlation to the HTML and changing your webstore to point to your own domain. There should be post explaining that on this forum, try looking in the recent activity if you have not already done so.

  • I managed to get onto your site last night and it looked really good but today it appears to have gone back to your old site.

  • Hi Quentin, I am not quite sure what you mean as it all looks ok to me today. I have been updating some product images manually so that might take some time.

  • What I mean is that clicking on the .eu link above brings up an error message, I have attached a screen shot to show you what I mean.

One thing I did mean to mention after I had a quick look at your site last night was the linking aspects.

I noticed in your code that you were putting the full link in as the href in your [a] (using square to prevent hyperlinks) tags. I have found that you can shorten this down by just using /b/53802825.
You can find this by navigating to the category you would like to link to and then just copying from the forward slash after your domain name.

For example if the category page had a link that looked like this

www . your-site .co.uk/b/65947932 (I have left spaces so it does not generate a hyperlink)

To create the [a] tag you would just enter href="/b/65947932"

The same applies when linking to product pages, just chop off the web address and keep everything from the forward slash up until the end of the asin.

I hope this makes sense, it is a lot easier to demonstrate visually rather than explaining in writing!

  • not sure about the .eu site, please see my screen shot image for the search for petaldolls.eu i just did
also, i will be repointing all the domains to the webstore in couple of weeks so my main domain .com and .co.uk should be bringing all traffic to the webstore.

  • more worrying are the links. i do understand what you are saying about linking but if i do the links as you suggest then i get an error message. please see the screen shots. first shows the way of linking images to category page and second is the error message

  • ok, will reply to the first, I can see it in google listings as you have shown but when I click on the .eu link that is when I get the error. If it displays ok for you maybe you could try a hard refresh (ctrl + f5) incase its a cached image?

With regards to the second I might have given you the wrong info, all links I have put in have been for the html I have written myself, I am unsure about linking from editorial widgets etc. When using html I have been able to use the shortened links just fine and they all click through on the live site.

I have just had a play with the editorial widget, I have not had any issues using the shortened links on images or text when trying to add them through the widget.

Personally for me I found the editorial widget a real struggle to use but thats my preference and lack of patience!

  • i don’t use Google chrome and even after the hard refresh the .eu link seems to be working for me. will check it from other computers and browsers (tried only ie & mozilla) and it seems ok.
unfortunately i don’t do html programming so i have to use the editorial widget which i also find to be a pain but have no other option at the moment.
the thing that is surprising for me is that i expected at least the templates available in this widget to be working. is there anybody responsible for that widget that can teach me a trick or two?

  • How bizarre, it does not work for me in firefox either.

Sadly I cant help any more with the widget, although I am sure someone else will be a long with a few tips for you.
