How to get Google Analytics to work with our webstore?

We have recently launched our webstore just last week. We started driving traffic using ADWORDS, but we want to track and optimize our webstore visits. So we started using Google Analytics. Even though Analytics Account number added to Webstore and verified with Google Analytics Account, we can not see any stats in google analytics. We think its something to do with webstore setup of analytics script.

Is there a way to fix it? Google Analytics provides a script which we can copy into pages (Master page) but when we try adding this using HTML widget or Editorial widget , webstore shows error and seems allergic to it.

So only option left was to use standard webstore mechanism of just editing Analytics widget on master page and adding our analytics account number. But its not working. We are not surprised as lot of other basic stuff also not working. And no help from seller support whatsoever other than giving us option to close our webstore account if we are not happy. Eh... not a bad choice I guess if Amazon recommends it.

We are now seriously concerned that we will pay heavy price for our decision to go ahead with webstore. Hope we are wrong in long run but only time will tell.

Any help will bring lot of relief to us. Some images below for your reference. Also just to let you know we are getting some visitors to webstore using ADWORDS ads on google also for testing we ourselves visited webstore many a times but none of visits tracked by analytics.

Looks like I found the fix for this. We should use Google Analytics Property ID for www.lovarzi.co.uk rather than Google Analytics account ID. It was suggested by Seller support to use Account id rather than property id.

Anyway seems like its all working now for the time being. Just thought to share here so that someone else might stumble across same issue for their webstore.

  • Greetings Maninder,

Very sorry for the late reply, and I am glad you were able to figure this out on your own! I was testing this for you and would have never caught that code was wrong since we don't have access to your Google account.

We are very sorry for the inaccurate information. I will also ask our training team to make sure our Support teams are more clear on these different ID types for the analytic tracking tools for future contacts of this nature.

    Regards,

  • We've been running webstore 2.0 for almost two years now, without analytics. amazon and the third party customizer we went with both couldn't help us with getting google analytics to work. This was all it is. Thanks sooooo much.

  • Hi TJR,

There should not be facing any such issues. As I mentioned in one of replies above , make sure you using correct ID for your website. But at same time I can imagine it might still not work as webstore still not a stable platform. But I guess once its all customized and working then it should be all fine for future.

    regards
    Maninder

  • Ok, I've opened a Google Analytics account, found the Property ID and copied it to the Google Analytics widget, copied the code and entered it into a html widget and dropped it onto a slot on my Master page. I then published it.
All i get is some sort of error where I've placed the widget (I can't see what it says as the slot is too narrow), I've tried placing the widget in several different places but it still gives me an error, and my Google Analytics status says that tracking is not installed.

    Help!

  • I've contacted the Amazon helpdesk about this (via email) and was told to copy the script to meta tags under page properties. I've tried this but it doesn't work either.

    Still stuck!

    Anyone? Hello?

    Hi Ted,

Just double check you are following these steps:

    1. Go to Merchandising & Layout
    2. Select Home page under Merchandising and layout
    3. Scroll down to find a widget with name Google Analytics. And click on it and then pencil icon to edit this widget.
    4. Once you do in step 3 you should see a pop up saying "This widget is inherited from Master Page bla bla bla .... " just click YES on it.
    5. You should now see Google Analytics widget in edit mode. First line with "Google Account ID " in front . Now you need to mention here property id for your website NOT your GOOGLE ANALYTICS account.
To get above, sig in to your google analytics account. Click on the EDIT in front of website you added to analytics. Then click on check status and you should see a line with Web Property ID [?] : , copy the code written in front of it. Something like UA-22732323-1

Once again make sure you are not adding your Google Analytics Account ID , instead add Web Property Id for that website which you want to track.

This is only problem I am aware of which we faced in enabling google analytics. I am not sure what you mentioned about adding code in HTML widget and page properties. That won't work , I am 100% sure. As Webstore HTML widget don't support code which Google Analytics give to us. Also page properties are not meant for analytics.

Hope this is of any help to you.

  • Hi Maninder

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate knowing I can get help from someone who's been there already!

As it turns out I had already done it correctly after having read your posts above but G A didn't start working until about 10 minutes ago. It's hard to believe that something so simple should take almost 48 hours to start working!

Thanks again, I'll keep a lookout for any other posts from you.

Maninder, I've got to say those step by step instructions were awesome! I'm brand new to Webstore and would never have found the widget buried there within the Layout section.

    Thanks!
