VentilatorMinOnTime: can it be used for other types of thermostats than ecobee3 (EMS, Smart, Smart-SI)?

Hello,

Back in September, MarkK from ecobee support mentionned that ventilatorMinOnTime could be used in the next coming month to set the minimum time per hour a ventilator (HRV/ERV) may run.

See previous thread:

Now, I understand that this answer was related to the upcoming ecobee3. So, I suppose this feature works only for ecobee3 thermostats. Is ecobee planning to port this feature to other types of thermostats as well (Smart, Smart-SI, EMS)?

Please let us know as many ecobee users are waiting for this feature.

    Hi Yves,

I have been informed that at this time there are no plans to back-port the functionality to previous models (Smart and Smart EMS models). The Si and Si EMS models do not support accessory relays and cannot control ventilators.

    Hello MarkK,

I know a lot of Smart users who have been waiting for this feature for quite a long time. To be told that this feature exists but will not be back-ported to other types of thermostats is really frustrating for a lot of loyal ecobee customers!

This is a minor firmware update for ecobee.

I'm personally waiting for the next generation of ecobee3 thermostats that can handle multiple devices (dehumidifier, HRV/ERV, humidifier) just like my SMART thermostat can do now.

I think that your marketing strategy should be changed to reflect the fact that you cannot force existing ecobee customers to upgrade to a product that offers less control for ecobee users out there!

    Regards.

    I completely agree with Yves.
Right now, I cannot see another thermostat that would meet my needs better than the ecobee Smart thermostat. If there is a "next generation" ecobee3 as mentioned by Yves, please make it a two unit device as the Smart.

However, the way ecobee is apparently dropping their loyal customers to only concentrate on their new product is not encouraging me to buy another ecobee product in the short-term future. I hope I still have many years of service out of the Smart I currently own, backported features or not.
