Has anyone else noticed the Quality of Apperyio going down since July Update?

I have had many many problems with the July Update, I am using JQuery Mobile. The problems are simply a lot of the things that used to work - suddeny - do not work. Like creating a new app to test with, creating a Barcode Device service, and it works 50% of the time. My CSS not working in many places. Many other things not working. It's gotten so bad that i actually Cancelled at one point, and then re-subscribed to get to my API's i created. But only for that reason. I have switched to a FAR BETTER tool - Wavemaker Online. Formerly owned by VMWare, Support is almost instant - only you have to get used to "IST" Time Zone. There are no limits to # of apps, and the tech support staff has bent over backwards to help me get up to speed. Apperyio needs to start listening to their customers, and raising prices - for a limited product - is not the way to do it. The tool i am using now - has 3-4 times the controls, many, many properties for each control, a Styles, Events, Device, Security Tabs for each page. One of the senior people there at Apperyio is killing their product due to not listening to the complaints of their customers ( = $$$ ). After this month, I will not renew again - and gladly so. I have found a far superior tool - $99 1 seat, $199 3 seats. No limits to speak of. Don R.

  • currently very disappointed in the support here at Appery. Love the product but miss the old attitude that every customer was important. Now it feels like they cant wait to dump a bunch of us who have been evangelizing the product.

  • I want to point out that I am NOT bashing Apperyio - don't want to get any "Flame Wars" started. I am just so disappointed in the direction the Platform has taken - since the little time i have been using it - 3 months or less. I was so excited when i first tried out Apperyio. ESPECIALLY the documentation - jsut had a very nice look and feel to it. And now - they give us this new documentation and say "Here it is like it or not ! ". It has nice navigation - but everything is abbreviated, very little "good info" like the older docs. I know there's a link to the old stuff - but MAX, has stated "it will be there a short time". Couple that with the very tiny amount of properties available for the controls, etc etc, and now they are raising the price even higher - madness. The product isn't worth $90 or more a month - it's a $35 a month product at best - at least in it's current state. Someone there up higher in the food chain should start talking to some of the developers out here. There are MANY companies producing VERY good products to develop Mobile apps with. Wavemaker is my choice - to-date - the best tool i have used - period. It's a shame the direction Appery is heading in, I truly wish them well, and success.

  • Don
Can you advise on how easy it was for you to move off the apperyio platform? To wavemaker? We are evaluating on how to stop the strongarming we are now experiencing to keep getting more money for less from their customers. I too loved their earlier documentation and it felt like they valued us . I have sung their praises far and low but the music certainly has soured indeed.

Today was the last straw for us. We want to move off here before the next billing. So disappointed in the direction that the company has taken, especially the customer support.

I say let it burn baby burn, clearly they do not want nor need my business.
    • Replying here is a mute point. I quit asking for help from support. My email is DonRedd2014@outlook.com is you have any questions. Be glad to help.
    • Don't like to really talk about Appery's competitor - they have enough problems, but to answer you - it was pretty painless - BEST MOVE I ever made. The Mobile documentation is a little lacking - but they ARE improving daily. I can vouch for their support. In the lower right of the Screen ( Browser Based - but very nice to work with ), is a little "Chat" window. From 12:00 am EST, till 9:30AM EST, they will answer, help, whatever you need - VERY FAST. VEry nice people, and they actually listen to their customers. One of the Higher-Ups in the company - actually made an overseas call to me to talk to me about my needs, and concerns of Wavemaker, compared to other tools I have used. These people - are a prime example of a company that is totally commited to their customers - no matter how big or small. PS: If you go down that path - i have compile a ton of very valuable notes I will sell you for 5 million ( lol ) - just joking - email me - will forward to you, free of course - saving you a ton of time. One developer to another developer helping each other out - the way it's supposed to be. HTH's Don R.

  • I'm sorry you feel this say. The July update was primarily moving to the new server-side API approach. In general we didn't introduce many new features that could have impacted the platform.

Like creating a new app to test with, creating a Barcode Device service, and it works 50% of the time.

I don't recall there were any issues creating a new app in the platform. It could have been something very specific to your account. If that was indeed the case, the support team would have helped you very fast with this issue. I think the same situation with the Barcode service.

My CSS not working in many places

Custom CSS can stop working for many reasons such as incorrect selectors, changing component IDs, etc. That's usually part of your app logic. It's unlikely a platform issue.

We left the old docs site running so users can access it.

The new site has the most up to date content, new and updated sample apps, a separate API reference section and easier navigation. We have been updating it daily with new content -- something we couldn't do easily with the old site.
    • Max - you don't see where there are any problems because you're in a perfect world there - you automatically know how to work around some of this stuff - because it is mostly you who are producing it. As far as asking support for help, I've asked a few times lately to never even get a response. It seems that only when I post something like this - is when it gets attention. If you really feel like the new documentation is better - then I have made the right decision to move to another tool. All that there is on the "New Docs" is a more General, small usually one-liner-type of answers. And you left the old site up - with a WARNING that it would not be there much longer - forcing all the developers out here to either like the new docs - or go somewhere else. Appery was a good idea. But, when changes break 5-6 parts of an already built app that has been working fine, then something is wrong. There are too many things to mention here. No one else out there is selling subscriptions based on a number of apps. No one. And to raise an already high price - for a product that is getting worse - is no good. And, to penalize us developers for not shelling out a bunch of cash to purchase an annual subscription - is also not good. For example: $57 annually, $85 month-month. That's over 50% more cost to not purchase annually. Not good.

I wish you guys well. I am now using a super product that didnt take long to adjust to - same stuff HTML5, JS, etc. Only difference is - it has a ton more features, controls, built in VCS, Multiple Backups at ANY price - as many as you want, I can have as many apps as I want - ie: to have small "Lab Apps", etc. Not to mention I can build either Web or Mobile.

So,Good Luck. You guys need to listen to your customers more instead of poking holes in their problems.

      Don R.
    • Hi Max, I owe a lot to Appery. like I wrote before at several occasions, I couldn't hv started with app, http server, xhr, ... without appery. however, I also experienced the CSS issue last Summer. I did mention it on that forum but got your usual answer "it must be your custom code". in fact, reading Don, I see today that I was not alone to face that issue.
as for the rest of Don's post, I still owe enough to Appery to hv renewed making use of the grandfathering. however, I do hv in mind a back up plan in prevision of the nxt pricing change. beside this coding stuff here, I run a business, I know how the economic equation is hard to solve. anyway, raising the price is usually not my first option. • Max

Having spent a lot of hours on a project over the UK Bank Holiday weekend I totally get where Don is coming from. I estimate that out of 8 hours of using Appery this weekend 6 were spent trying to make things work (edit/test/repeat) or sending and replying to support emails. So yes, the team respond to emails but in the end I didn't resolve my problem - in this case reading and writing dates from the DB and displaying them in a datepicker.

Max, you and I have had 1:1 email exchanges about Appery's support and Don's comments reinforce what I have previously said.

As you have no doubt scaled up in users the support and documentation is not responsive enough for serious developers. In particular the documentation is at times woeful - you just cannot find any reference to some things and that goes for the old docs as well.

I'm so far into the app I'm developing that I don't thing I *can* jump ship to another product now. I like Appery and would not have even started with it last year if I didn't BUT it's going downhill fast in my opinion and it reminds me of another dev platform that went the same way over a year ago (you know who I mean Max).

Please, can you put resources into enhancing the documentation quickly as that will reduce support. It's simple really: document every component and service and API call. Explain what it does, how it does it and how to use it WITH A WORKING EXAMPLE OR TWO. And most importantly, keep the documentation up-to-date with the product.

Oh, and can you please ask the support team to give me a working answer to the date problem! I am totally stuck until I can do that.

    • This particular sample needs to be updated with a server-side approach for the service. Here is an example you can use: https://maxkatz.org/2016/04/13/how-to...

  • Can I also contact you for your conversion notes?

With the recent changes on Appery's increase of pricing, drastically reducing quota, and support problem. I am in urgent need of evaluating other solutions.

I am checking out ionic creator last few day but I don't think they are ready. Wavemaker looks more promising.

As I outlined in their recent price change announcement thread, I used to love Appery and don't want to see them fail but I really don't think the company listening to customer inputs and pain points.

I guess I am also one of the very small number who got impacted as mentioned in their CEO update here/

    https://blog.appery.io/2016/08/update...

Hope the company enjoy the temporary boost and good luck.

  • Appery is down again, for more than an hour. I am getting "404 - Not Found" or "Pushing Updates". Very disappointing.

  • Hi Max.
Its a shame,. I love Appery but now looking at other options. Example all I want to do is setup a google (or Fb) logon and token with Ionic.

This tutorial would be great, but you have removed the plug-in referred to, something so important, the support reply's are poor, can you help?

    for this tutorial https://docs.appery.io/docs/samples-l...
