I have a question about the iPhone 3G. Can you buy memory for the iPhone 3G? Can you upgrade your iPhone 3G's memory? If we can do this how?

No you can't. I would suggest deleting some unnecessary apps, songs, movies, etc that can take up a lot of space. Sorry to disappoint

The thing is sealed shut. No upgrades, sorry. Unless you want to void your warranty and even then i wouldn't do it - the iPhone is designed for however much memory is printed on the back.

Mophie makes a 'juice pack' how cool if they included a sd or micro sd slot in their battery/case!? I can't imagine it would take more than an app from them to make this extra storage available for your less frequently used storage items.
I think I'll send them a note....

Ok... sorry here, im not trying to hate on yall but, there is a BIG difference between Memory (RAM) and Storage. The iPhone has its Storage capacity printed on the back NOT the Memory specification. iPhone 3g has 128Mb RAM and 3Gs has 256Mb RAM. VERY different from 8, 16 or 32 GB of storage.

I dont know if this is possible but look on craigslist.org and search for iphone reapir and call the people and ask if they can change the memory on your iphome . They could prolly take off the memory off the old broke one (cracked screen or something ) and replace it with yours itll prolly be around 50-60 . Im just guessing . Or you can just buy a used one with more memory and sell yours .

jailbroke my iphone, upgraded the memory using ssh, went from 150-205MB on 3gs of VM. I was super worried about it not knowing anything about it or that it would void the warranty. well apples warranty isn't all that great to begin with it only last a year and they dont cover accidental damage, i.e. water damage which apple sees alot of. Jailbreaking my iphone trippled the perfomance of it and I have ZERO regrets, except not doing it sooner. All my skeptic friends have turned over to the dark side as well and they couldn't be more pleased. And its completley reversable via iTunes. the only need for more Virtual Memory is if you want to run mulitple apps at once, and you cant do that unless you jailbreak and use backgrounder anyways, and even that poses no threats to my RAM usage. But you don't have to take my word for it just google "top ten reasons to jailbreak your iphone"

http://iphoneunlockprogram.com/index....

You need to install OpenSSH on your device via cydia and download. Assuming you have windows you will need to download WinSCP to your computer so you can access your device. I used the .plist version and it worked great. Just download it and follow the instructions in the link I provided above. Im pretty computer illiterate so it took a little while for me to figure out. I just draged and dropped the .plist from my desktop to winSCP while my device was tethered using SSH. Make sure you turn SSH off when not using so you are not open to malicious attacks against your device, which so far, fourtunatly, there are no such cases in the U.S.

Oh ok, well .. not that part.. My phone is jailbroken and have TONS of stuff on it.. I mean the Virtual Memory part... I would LOve more than 128mb, and have about 5 gigs left so using from that for virtual memory would be a GREAT idea :). What Mod did you use to up your Memory?

HAHA! Kellyray, I don't know how much you know about iPhone, here you sound like you are "Know It All", what a shame! I am not trying to tear your face here, I just want to tell you Stop if you don;t know what is going on.
I had my Apple iPhone 3G 16GB changed into 32GB and I even change to 512MB of RAM. So far no problem for over 6 months now and I am thinking of upgrading to 64GB, but it is too expensive now. So, to give you guys and gals information... You can upgrade your iPhone 3G to highier storage and RAM, but make sure what you know what to do. I have Version 3.1.2 Sync. with no problems...

ACK i think flash memory, the bootrom and all directories of IOS are stored inside the internal iphone memory..so if u even changed those it may result in brick and replacing another one may not help....how can you even transfer the boot data and stats into another flash chip..you sound suspicious.show me some proof like images...and how did u manage that..i don't believe but want to believe..So plz reply me asap at skc_metalz@yahoo.com

In fact I was not trying to sound like a "Know it all"... the only thing I happened to point out was the difference between RAM and HardDrive space. That was the only think I was pointing out... and it is NOT a shame. in the other comment, I was saying that I have over 5Gb left for storage so, it would be nice to use that as Virtual Memory... Not as fast as Ultra Fast RAM.... but... atleast it would help out a bit.. I can tell either 1- you did not read properly or 2- you are just a nOOb that would like to humiliate others .....
I vote for number 1 ... but hey.. its your call in the end :D.

THANKS!

lol. I dont know why but I just got 2 emails redircting me here. Just sonyou guys know VM mods are very bad. Take it from a real "know it all" lol. There are safer ways to increase ram. Like removing useless daemons. And TBH if you have a 3GS you shouldnt worry.

Well... I have broke several iPhones before I get to where I am... what I did is I change the physical memory and use the method of Memory Copy. But it is a little bit slow, my friend is helping me to see if there is any way to boost it. but so far, things works great, a lot of memory and storage... I put it on the other website like this: people said that you can’t upgrade jailbroken iPhone 3G 16GB 128MB RAM, for some reason I did for over 6 months ago and is still working fine. all you need is to have a RAM Copy Machine and a 16GB Data Transfer the rest just make sure your iPhone programs reads them, that can be download from Cydia or Rock. (Add one more resource that wrote in Chinese Language)

I use to have a iPhone 3G 16GB 128MB RAM, but after sick and tire of delete them all the time and found out later you need it again, I finally check some information about iPhone on the internet, buy some parts and start to do it myself... my iPhone now is 32GB 512MB RAM, I am thinking to upgrade to 64GB but it is too expensive now, I will wait until the price of 64GB drops. So far for the past 6 months, I have done the Sync. and make calls with no problems, have tones of apps, music, photos in it... but a little slow in difference at ~3 Seconds from original, but worth it, sometimes I do get crashes from some apps I download, but soft reset them by holding the power buttom and the home buttom making the screen flash the apple logo 2 times and it went back to normal.

In conclusion, you can upgrade your iPhone 3G 16GB 128MB RAM with no problem, but you have to make sure you know what to do... making to this point, I have killed 3 pieces of iPhone 3G 16GB and get to where I am... it’s quite simple and easy to upgrade by knowing how to solder and get the right equipment. Do some research and you will get it how to do it!

No offence... but just to write on here to let you guys know that it is possible...

By the way, Battery do drain out extra fast... I use the Mophie, it still not as good as the original usage time... but good enough when you talk direct or bluetooth it while charging. I am looking at the iPhone program and trying to see if I can change it... but too busy with my business and travel now, will do it when I have the time.

I wrote that to Kellray because I don't like people posting something that discourage people when they didn't even try or know what is going on, I see a lot of these but I choose this site while trying to locate information about iPhones and saw your question is a lot more straight forward about memory change, that is why I come to share the possibilities... but, whatever you guys put up there I understands, I guess I am just to straight forward also, I just want to share what I know and and have done to give out some idea so I can satistify my issue here, because I still face problems with battery problems and I try not to discourage others so to give others a chance to think and confident themselves, because you never know what other people have in mind about what they have. So... no offense... Thank you so much in advance for your understanding!

After holding down the Home button for a few seconds the Voice Control screen comes up with a quick beep-beep noise to prompt you to speak and some wavy lines over a blue background that move when you begin to speak. Various commands that you can say also scroll past, faded slightly in the background. Calling people from our contacts list worked well when we said "Call" followed slowly by the person's name as it appears in our contacts. After doing so, the iPhone 3GS repeats back to you in a robotic female voice, "Calling NAME." If there are multiple numbers listed for an individual contact, the contact's name will appear on the screen with a notice saying, Multiple numbers, and the voice will say, "Call NAME. Home or Mobile?" Replying with one of the choices then dials that number.
