I can't get Itunes to authorize my computer to play my purchased music...

  • Problem
  • Updated 3 years ago
I had to reinstall itunes 7 on my macbook... I can play my purchased music on my computer while using the itunes program... But I have put together some video projects using some of my itunes music in the background... and now when i try to play my video's i am told "this computer is not authorized to play this song..." I authorize, re-authorize, and re-authorize again, and it makes no difference. It won't play it... I'm putting together some new clips recently, and I'm not able to use any of the music that I purchased before the re-install... Every time It tells me to authorize, i put in my email addy and password and it says it works, but it doesn't... I am really worried and frustrated... I spent a lot of money on that music collection for it to just sit there and be useless...

I have the same problem except I wasn't re-installing. I have an iMac and my iTunes just started randomly selecting songs which wants authorization. Almost 200 songs so far!!! When I try to authorize with my password, nothing happens. I'm so discouraged and frustrated. When I called Apple support, they said they couldn't help me. I'm on the verge of freaking out. Someone please help.

i'm having this too. I think it may be an Apple server problem. It's Sunday and maybe nobody is working. I can deauthorize my computer but cannot re-authorize it.

I fixed mine. I found the solution at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389?vi...

I did ALL of the suggesting items and NOTHING has worked! It plays ONLY the brand new songs it originally wouldn't play and now it plays every 15th song or so. I have 1314 songs in my library!!!

Oops! It worked on one computer and not the other. I'm convinced Apple has a problem with the new version of iTunes and I hope they'll respond quickly. Meanwhile I plan to get on the phone with them on Thursday to debug this.

I have been on the phone with Apple Support AND back and forth through email with iTunes store and everything they have given me to do hasn't worked. I've worked on this issue for no less than 4 hours and now I can't play 90% of my 1314 songs on iTunes. It started out with only my new purchases no working! The last email I got from iTunes was that he had to escalate it to someone else because he had NO idea how else to help me.

There are hundreds of posts on Apple's discussion areas about various interpretations of this: failed authorization, server busy, new iTunes. Surely they will hear the complaining soon.

Here is the last email I got from iTunes: "I do want to apologize again for the inconvenience. The issue that your account is facing is a fairly widespread error for which has affected many of our customers. In order to correct the error with your account, I am having it looked at by an engineer..." So yes, they know about it...but they've known about my specific issue for almost 6 days now!!! I think it was a gliche in the version update.

I noticed this weekend that all of my problem files are Freeplay 2 copy-protection and the files that are fine are Freeplay 3. They've obviously changed something. Still waiting a reply from Apple support.

I have had several emails from Level 2 Tech support assuring me that Engineering is "on the case" but it has been quite awhile now and out of 1314 songs, I'm now down to 32 that work. I'm hopeful still but growing impatient.

i have been having this problem on and off for about six months. it allows me to authorise every now and again or sometimes it won't sync onto to the ipod.... Fairly annoyed at this stage as they didn't even reply to my email this time!!!!!!

I got an email yesterday claiming that the engineers were working on the problem and acknowledging that it is widespread. Patience is a virtue, I suppose, but I want it fixed SOON!

this is what I got today "I am truly sorry for this ongoing situation. Your account still has yet to be repaired. However, the good news is that I am seeing a large number of accounts being repaired as of the last few days. Therefore, I am pretty sure the wait is not to much longer. Also, I have received authorization to issue you some appeasement song credits for this inconvenience once your account has been repaired.

I hope to have that update for you very soon as it looks like this issue won't be taking to much longer to correct. Have a nice day.

My purchases are finally working!! (On the Mac, I deleted my "Users/Shared" folder but I don't think that's related.)

Apple wrote: "We have found, and addressed, an issue which was preventing some computers from authorizing properly."

All's well.

I just downloaded the new version of Itunes 8 and it says I'm not authorized to play music or watch video. When it says "click here to authorize" and i resubmit my info, it says I'm already authorized.

Help

hunker down for a good month or so of waiting until it gets fixed. The engineers at iTunes are well aware of the issue and they have to fix each account specifically and separately. You have to contact the iTunes store via email and someone will get back to you. As soon as they do...keep on them until all your songs are fixed.

I just contacted them. I'll post what they respond.

I had the same problem and fixed it.
It happened to me because i recently switched macs and had a new Apple ID. I had to authorize my itunes with my old Apple ID and my new one.
Works now. Hope it helps.

everlast is right -- the problem stems from authorizing under the correct Apple ID. There is also a folder you may want to get rid of... see below...

Here's an article that may help everyone. I went through this with customer support at apple, and over the course of 10 emails (back and forth!) we found the problem.

iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

ski vail, is there any chance that you may have already authorized five computers on your account? If that is the case, then you can "deauthorize all computers associated with your account" and then re-authorize yours by following these steps:

I thought Macs didn't have issues...? I personally think it is a problem with their service. I was thinking about buying my wife a Mac but have changed my mind after hearing of their support. Not comforting.

i can't play or burn ANY of my music on iTunes!!! it's really frustrating! i wanted to burn an album i bought to disc so i didn't have to use the computer to play it, but whenever i try it says "this computer is not authorized to play or burn this track" and then i authorize it, and it STILL doesn't work! this is really getting on my nerves, i have over 1500 songs that i can't play!!
