Did you really just remove the only interesting tool on the Interweb to follow comments from everywhere?

We don't care about Twitter search on Backtype, we already have it elsewhere...

Our search engine is no longer exclusively a "blog comments search engine," and it isn't a copy of Twitter search either. We surface the latest news and opinions for a topic. People prefer opinions in the form of tweets because they're easier to read than longer comments; that's why we've started showing them more often.

Chris: but the indexing of native comments has been a lot slower too, up to the point sometimes I think it's better if Backtype also has feature to push an update to the service like CoComments. It's also easier to see the whole Twitter comments in Backtype, but not the whole native comments on site (without visiting the site).

Yes, unfortunately Subscriptions has been retired — not enough people found it useful.

I don't understand. You can read blog posts everywhere claiming Backtype has at last solved a problem everyone has and almost no one else solved right before, including CoComment.

Only Co.mments was close, but has been shut down several months ago.

Backtype was our only way to track comments from everywhere, we have no alternative...

Really sorry we removed a feature that was useful to you. There just isn't enough interest in Subscriptions to keep it running.

So backtype have been transformed into something we can find everywhere else, and the ONLY feature I used have been removed. Not great.

We're striving to make BackType useful for lots of people; we welcome your feedback and suggestions. Unfortunately, Subscriptions wasn't used by many people so we need to shift our time and resources elsewhere. I hope you understand

So that's why I've just spent 15 minutes looking for but failing to find subscriptions. I now have no idea what backtype is for.

What a shame. I won't delete my account as it has my comment history. And as that's integrated into my friendfeed I don't see any reason whatsoever why I'll ever be back to backtype.

It was nice whilst it lasted. Bye.

It's a shame Backtype has decided to abandon us, is anyone aware of another service offering these features?

I'm gutted too. Half of the goodness of this service is gone! At least you can still find your random comments by URL : eg. http://www.backtype.com/url/ropata.wo...

Thank you for suggesting the lookup by url. I found a way to get that to work for me, though I wish BackType hadn't discontinued subscriptions. But your comment helped me out a lot. BackType should've suggested it!

Search by URL might seem like an obvious thing to do, but it wasn't obvious to me.

Sounds like I no longer have a reason to use Backtype. Was such a great tool. I really liked being able to follow conversations I was part of but had forgot about. Would have been nice to have recieved a notice of this in my email. But it's not like I was paying for the serivce. Oh well...

I agree with almost everyone above. I just realized I wasn't receiving notifications anymore, and went to the site to find a bunch of "Page Not Found". So.. what IS this site for now? Searching Twitter? Lame. I can do that about 12 different ways.

I agree with everyone else here. The only reason I used Backtype was because of the subscription feature--a great feature that wasn't available anywhere else on the web to the best of my knowledge.

Now that it's gone, I'm gone too. Bye, bye, Backtype. Nice knowing you. R.I.P.
