BBC iPlayer should offer a HTML5 player instead of the standard Flash player.

Now that YouTube has gone live with a HTML5 video player, it would be great if the BBC could do the same with iPlayer and support the movement to a open web.

Hi,
Thanks for your question. You'll be pleased to know that Rahul Chakkara spoke about our plans regarding a HTML based iPlayer on the BBC Internet Blog in Novermber last year. Please see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinterne....

Hope that helps!

Just to add to this, I would also like to see the BBC News website adopt a HTML5 video player.

I too would like the BBC to start offering BBC News video in HTML5. Then it work on the iPad, the only website for me where the lack of Flash is a big annoyance. The iPlayer is already offered in that format, so it should be relatively straightforward to implement.

BBC News website is launching a re-design in the next few days. Let's keep our fingers crossed for some HTML5 video!

No it's not easier for Apple to support Flash - Adobe only *just* managed after countless years of bungled efforts to deliver a _beta_ that plays video on any kind of mobile device e.g.Android (people who've experienced it advise you turn it off to avoid crippling your mobile browsing). The idea that Adobe has a version of Flash ready for Apple to just drop on the iPhone is a myth you've fallen for.

It is way easier for websites to deliver video in standard based HTML 5. It's so easy in fact the BBC have been doing it for years with iPlayer as do most of the major media sites around the world, go check 'em out http://www.apple.com/ipad/ready-for-i...

Sorry, but this is a really stupid comment. Flash is dead or dying and it's time to move on to tomorrow's technology, not hearken back to the past.
