default titles to speech

how do I get the blue default title boxes on activity templates to speak the contents?
how do I get them to speak automatically when the activity opens?
I know I can add a speech gadget, but I want to add instructions for some activities and I want them to speak automatically when the activity opens, after the title. I have boardmaker studio.

  • Hi Joanna,

There are a few things that you will need to do to make the blue box speak. First, in the Studio editor select the box so it puts the orange box around it. Then on the right under Properties select State and check the box to make it Selectable. Then double click on the blue title box and add the speak label action.

To make it speak the title when it opens in the player you have to select the page itself so the orange box is around the whole page and not a single button. Then double click the page and add the Speak Text action. The text you input will be the title of the page.

  • your instructions were excellent and I was able to do exactly what you said. I can speak anything I want when the activity opens by adding speech to the page and I can get any button to to speak the label. I am very happy with this, thank you.

now, of course, I want more. some activity templates speak the button labels when the mouse rolls over them. you do not have to select them. I know it's a different setting because the rollover voice is male and the selectable voice is female. I did try to answer my own question. I looked at many button properties that were speaking on rollover and I could not find any settings to account for it. usually, there was a lot of string commands on the settings page that you get when you double click it but I couldn't really discern any speaking commands.

can you please tell me how to get the buttons to speak on cursor rollover? I have several visually impaired students and it would help immensely. they could know what option they are on without having to select it.
