  • I had never heard of 'Edit an Image in Editor' so I just tried it and it worked for me. It opened up Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Do you have that program on your computer? maybe that is the problem????

  • Hello everyone,

This error normally occurs because of Read\Write Permission not being given to the proper locations. You would need to check the permissions on the location below if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. You must be logged in as an Administrator when doing this. Thanks!!

Follow these steps to check the Permissions:

    1. You will then need to navigate to C/Program Data.
    2. Right-click on the Mayer-Johnson folder.
    3. Select Properties.
    4. Select the Security Tab.
    5. Select the appropriate User Account Name in the list. Below will be the permissions given. If your User Account does not have Full Control checked, you will need to select Edit.
    6. Select the appropriate User Account again, and mark the box for Full Control.
    7. Select Apply.
    8. You can now open Boardmaker Studio and try to select the Edit Image In Image Editor.

  • I’m frustrated
I have the same problem and has not been resolved with the above solution. I have been logged in as an Administrator and still have issues!!
Is there any other help available? I have tried technical support from Mayer-Johnson but have not heard of any other solutions.

  • I have just solved it on my computer. I used the above instructions from Mayer Johnson Technical support but you also have to open the Mayer Johnson folder and do the same process by right clicking on the Boardmaker studio folder. Make sure all your users have full control for both Mayer Johnson and Boardmaker Studio folder.

Amylitton, I changed all the permissions to full control in both the Mayer Johnson and Boardmaker studio folder like you, but still get the error!

Anyone from Mayer Johnson have a solution for the problem?

Hello. As mentioned above, this typically involves permissions. I would check that all of the sub folders have full control, as well (especially the My Symbols folder). If this does not help, I would try our Tech Support team at 1-800-588-4548 or support@mayer-johnson.com for further assistance. We can log in remotely, if needed.

  • I’m FRUSTRATED
I'll tell you this, since clearly, no one from Boardmaker is going to.
From your desktop, on your Boardmaker icon, after you've set your permissions to "full control," RIGHT click on your icon and select "Open as Administrator" instead of just clicking on the icon as usual to open it. It will then take you to Paint where you can go through the hassle of REsaving and REimporting your picture.
Would Microsoft of Mac please BUY this product away from DynaVox and rescue this great idea that's entrenched in the poorest, most antiquated programming I've ever seen?!

It's not necessary to right click on the BM icon and run as admin every time you open the program. You simply need to have the appropriate read/write permissions.

Here's an article that covers which folders you need to check.

I would also suggest checking your UAC controls.

If you are using a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer and User Account Controls are turned on, it can cause issues.
    To turn UAC off:
    1. Select the Start Menu.
    2. Select Control Panel.
    3. Select User Accounts.
    4. On the left side, select Change User Account Control Settings.
    5. When the menu opens, you will see a slider bar. Slide the bar down to Never Notify.
    6. Select OK.
    7. You must now restart the computer for these changes to take effect.

  • Where was this information when I needed it? I looked hard. Still, the process is a convoluted waste of time, and if there's one thing Special Ed teachers don't have, it's time!

  • Sorry to have neglected this issue for so long,

I did solve the problem with editing pictures when I would get this error:
    Unhandled exception has occurred....
A generic error occurred in GDI+

It turns out that something had corrupted the Windows 7 "User Account".
I created a new user in the control panel and like magic the problem went away.

I did have to copy everything of importance to the new user's Documents directory, and re-install some software which consumed a good bit of my time. It did solve my problem - which by the way had nothing to do with appropriate permissions - and I don't think turning off UAC is such a good idea for security reasons.

  • I'm still having this issue for one of my teachers' computers. It worked on a few computers last year but not on this one.

    Any other suggestions?
