Same file looks different when viewed on Macbook Pro and Mac Mini

Our files are stored in Dropbox and up to now no problems at all. Latest design however has a few objects apparently viewing differently on different machines. I have checked the versions are same, the installed fonts and checked coordinates and all looks the same but visually a few items (text and pngs) have visually moved positions. See screenshots (1) on Macbook Pro, (2) on Mac Mini - see the buttons and logo have shifted..

  • There are a few problems with Sketch on the new MBPs that we're aware of. We're working on a solution and an update should be submitted shortly.
I trust these issues will then go away as well.
    My apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Pieter many thanks. By the way this MBP is about 1 year old (so not that new and not the Retina display version). Also I have other designs which have been fine. So all a bit weird really lol

  • I automatically assumed it was the new MBPs as people have been telling me by the dozen that Sketch isn't yet competible with it. :-P
This problem is a different one. I can't think why stuff would move except for a font mismatch. But if that isn't the case... :-/

Then again, PNG's moving around cannot possibly be connected to font problems.

When you closing/reopenm, waiting for dropbox to sync, and reopen, is the problem still there?
And does it happen with other documents?

  • Pieter - this is really weird and has just happened again for me!
Please see images - screenshots of same file. One from a MBP (not retina) and the other from a Mac Mini (not latest version). The file was created on the MM (fonts from Google). When opened on MBP I forgot to install the new fonts, so it without warning replaced fonts with system fonts. So I installed fonts and relaunched. But still the same so I manually went through and respecified the fonts, sizes and positions to match the original version. There seemed to be weirdness at this point as same font, same sizes were rendered differently. Now the really weird bit...I then closed the file and opened it on the MM (this is where it was originally created) and the fonts were messed up again!

    MBP version (correct)

    MM version (messed up)

  • I apologise again for the inconvenience. I think I know what's happening, but I have no solution yet.

When you change a font in Sketch usually the text field will also change its position/size slightly to match the new font dimensions.
If you then go in and change the fonts back they'll change again.

What I must surely do is to disable this automatic font substitution. I'll put it on the todo list. With that I think it would all work out alright.

Sorry again for the trouble :(
