Download Issues

I just purchased an ebook, but once I've downloaded it my computer can't recognise the file (which is called Download.acsm).
What do I do now?

Also it shows that the books are locked. I can download them to my computer but ADE will not open them so I can move them to my ereader. Any help would greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you for your shopping with BooksOnBoard. Please make certain your file associations are set to open the .acsm (the pre-install extension of ADE ebooks sourced from ACS4 servers) and .epub extensions in your ADE 1.7 software.

    To do this:

    For Windows XP and earlier:

    - Open Windows Explorer.
    - Click TOOLS.
    - Click FOLDER OPTIONS.
    - Click the FILE TYPES tab.
    - Scroll down to the .acsm extension and highlight it.
    - In box under "details for acsm extension," change the Opens With assignation to Adobe Digital Editions.
    - Repeat for ePub extensions if necessary.

    For Windows Vista or 7:

    - Open the Control Panel (Click START - CONTROL PANEL); please DO NOT use Classic view.
    - Click PROGRAM.
    - Click DEFAULT PROGRAMS.
    - Click "Make a File Type Always Open in a Specific Program".
    - Scroll down to the .acsm extension and highlight it.
    - Click CHANGE PROGRAM and select Adobe Digital Editions.
    - Repeat for ePub extensions.

    For Macintosh Operating Systems:

    - 'Control-click' the 'acsm' file and select 'Open With'.
    - Select 'Other...'.
    - In the list of programs displayed, select Adobe Digital Editions.
    - Check the 'Always Open With' box so that the .acsm file type - will always open in Adobe Digital Editions.
    - Repeat for ePub extensions.

This file "association" will cause downloads to default to Adobe Digital Editions.

Please let us know if this does not resolve the issue, and we will continue to troubleshoot.

  • After completing steps needed for windows vista, I am still not able to download the books. There is a symbol of a lock that is closed before Adobe ePub. It there any thing else that i can do to fix this problem.

Without knowing what the specific books are or what the error message is that you're getting, it's impossible for me to speculate on the reason. If you haven't done so already, please email our support team at support@booksonboard.com, or use the help request submission form found here: http://www.booksonboard.com/index.php... so they can check the specific download link.

I can tell you that the padlock icon you see next to the format means the book is protected with DRM. To download any DRM ePub or PDF books to your PC or Mac, you must have Adobe Digital Editions installed and registered. Non-DRM books will not have this padlock icon.
