Blue backlight on our Smart Oven BOV800XL went out and won't come back..

The blue LCD backlight on our BOV800XL has gone out and won't come back on, even when we push the Start/Cancel button or turn any of the dial. Digits still appear, just not the blue backlight. I also unplugged the unit for 10 minutes and plugged it back in, but that didn't work either. Help!

Do you usually keep the oven plugged into the wall when not in use? The owners manual recommends that the oven remain unplugged when not in use. I suspect one reason for this recommendation is the fact that the LCD panel remains lit when plugged in. As a result, the blue light would always be on and then burn out at some point. I wish the unit could remain plugged in when not in use, but have the LCD panel turn off.

Hello Steve,

It sounds like you may need a replacement oven as your LCD backlight is no longer functioning. Unfortunately we would be unable to send you the replacement part to install or troubleshoot this issue and would need to simply replace the oven under warranty. Please email us at askus@brevilleusa.com for further assistance.

Sam,

I have answered your post on your other topic and your LCD backlight will turn off when in standby but will come back when your make any changes on your settings or unplug/plug your machine in. The LCD backlight should not stay off indefinitely.

... and if our machine having the same problem is out of warranty...
it seems like the failure to permit the replacement of a bulb in the unit is a very poor design IMHO... I did not read anywhere that it is recommended to keep the unit unplugged... how can we get this problem fix when we are out of warranty by 6 months?

Ironically, the blue light on my brand new Smart Oven does not work. I have owned the oven approximately 3 weeks, but rarely use it. I decided to see if my blue light comes on and it does not. I sent an email to askus@brevilleusa.com. The LCD lights up at the end of a cooking cycle, but its not blue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello Sam,

A few of our newer models have white or orange backlights. If you are noticing these colors as opposed to blue, then this is completely normal. If you are noticing that your lights are going dim while in use, unfortunately we would need to replace the machine as this may be a software related issue.

I unplugged the unit for 15 minutes - plugged back in and still no blue light. My oven is also out of warranty as of January, 2011. Please advise what steps I need to take to either have it replaced or repaired. It is very difficult to use the oven with no light - I have been using a flashlight which is not exactly what I had in mind when I purchased the oven. Otherwise I have been extremely happy - recommended it to two friends. Thanks for your help with the matter.

Kenji,

I sent and email to Breville explaing that the LCD light has slowly diminished. We have owed the oven for about 2 years now. I have to use a flashlight and a magnifying glass in order to read the panel. At $250.00 William Sonoma, I don't think that is what we had in mind when we bought it. What can be done to help us. thank you.

I have the same issue. Some time ago, the blue backlight simply stopped working and will not come back on at all. My husband also has to use a flashlight to read the panel.

We love the oven but this light is an issue.

We are also out of warranty.

I don't know why this topic has been labelled as "solved", because it hasn't been, 6 months since I asked the question in the first place I would like a straight answer, either here or via the e-mail AskUs@BrevilleUSA.com, about how to have the backlight either repaired or replaced.

Let's make this clear: I am inquiring about a unit that is out of warranty. I have no idea where my receipt is. I just want to know how to have my unit repaired. Where can I take it? Or where do I have to send it?

Thank you.

And one more question: How much is it going to cost me to repair? (including shipping, if applicable.)

I have the same problem - but have found a receipt. My blue light never comes on now - how much is it to have it repaired and where do I take it? I live in Charlotte, NC - do you have a repair service in this area?
Thanks,
Susan

I found this forum a couple of weeks ago and decided to send an email to Breville about my oven which had the dead display light problem. They responded immediately and asked for a proof of purchase. I couldn't find the receipt, but did find the transaction on the Visa statement when I purchased it. That was good enough and they immediately emailed a prepaid return label. I sent the oven back and prepared to wait for 2 to 4 weeks to receive my replacement. I was surprised a week later when the new one arrived. They must have shipped it as soon as they were notified that I had shipped the old one. I don't think I have ever had better customer service from a company, especially since this is a pricey item and it was a couple of months out of warranty.

I hardly ever take the time to write this kind of recommendation, but Breville deserves it.
