LCD quit working!

The LCD on my Smart Oven (which I purchased 7 months ago) has stopped working, so now I can hardly see the settings. I've e-mailed Breville about this, but so far no answer. Why did it stop working? I've done some Google searches on this and it seems 7 months is the key number if the LCD is going to go kaput.
