Is buxfer dead?

There have been no post by Buxfer on these forums for 2 months, the blog hasn't been updated since September 2009.

Has anyone with a paid subscription heard from support recently?

Seems like I may have to switch to mint.com

Absolutely.

I moved to clearcheckbook.com myself.

I tried mint.com but you can ONLY add accounts that they have listed. You cannot add miscellaneous accounts.

I track a few local debts and I'm not able to add them otherwise I'd be using it.

Does clearcheckbook.com basically have the same functions like buxfer? Manually adding transactions, budgets, etc...?

Check it out, it's free! There is a premium version for about $3.00 a month which is ridiculously cheap. I pay for a year in advanced and forget about it.

Btw, I called my bank and contested the charge for buxfer since they do not answer their phone, support emails, or respond on the website.

I think it is dead since no one answers emails and the last blog entry is from sep2009 (http://www.buxfer.com/blog/).

Sure would be nice if they'd at least refund year subscriptions if we're all going to have to relocate...

I have been a loyal user and a vocal supporter of Buxfer since about 3 years now. What is going on with the site? Too many bugs, no responses, and the founder seems to have joined Facebook (it says so on his profile somewhere on the Internet). I thought they were pretty successful (and quite popular amongst users). Have they really given up?

Yes, this is complete strange ... I hope nothing has happened to them? But why should one abandon such a promising project!? I liked Buxfer very much. It'a shame....

I would be nice if they would at least let us know what's going on, or reassure us that Buxfer isn't shutting down any time soon. If they were to shut down without warning, I would lose very valuable information on debts owed to me - it would basically cost me money. Without any sort of reassurance I'll have to switch to another solution even though there's not much wrong with Buxfer in order to avoid that risk.

indeed it lacks both functionlities. still, for non-us users, it looks like the best alternative

ClearCheckboox also doesn't offer automatic categorization... which is a surprising omission to me.

I've looked at the competing services recently and can't find one that does everything Buxfer does -- allow fairly complex manual transactions as well as downloaded entries from your bank.

My strategy is to stick with it in hopes that a larger company recognizes the value of this service and buys it. If you're worried about it suddenly disappearing, though, I'd recommend backing up your entries frequently. Just perform a search on all your accounts and download the results as a CSV file.

Oooo.. come on! Seriously?
At least they should say something to calm us down.
Or else I'll ty clearcheckbook or pocketsmith tha'ts it's cool too. But buxfer have some particulary options that are very usefull to me.. shared transaction, for instance.

To bad, I was with Wesabe before which I loved but did not have a good "Budget" tool. Now that Wesabe is shutting down, I was looking for a replacement, and amognst all the PFA out there Buxfer seemed to be the best replacement. But am I going to take the chance and transfer everything on to this application to see it shuting down in a couple of months.....

I back up my data once a week.

The guy who runs it is okay but it seems he's on his own since the co-founder left.

'Buxfer monitors but is not active in this community' - says it all really. The lack of communication doesn't bode well. I'd definitely say it was dying - no development or anything.

I just need a website that works for UK users and handles tagging.

Does anyone have any news ?

I tried emailing support and got nothing...

This site is really great, and I've compared it to GreenSherpa, MoneyDance, Mint, Yodlee, etc... it's even better than Wesabe in some ways!

It's really one of the best! It would be a shame if it died.

I paid for 6 months for the PRO version few days ago. In spite of some bugs and wishes, this application is really good.

If the development of site is stopped why did they let people register and pay money for that?

I paid for a Pro membership because I wanted to encourage the company and its backers to keep going. As far as I can tell, however, all features are now available to all users.

I'm considering becoming a member even though the support doesn't seem to be active... the product is that good ! If they were doing active updates, it would be even better !

I'd agree if I wasn't worried that the site would stop responding one day and I wouldn't have access to anything. If they aren't supporting it anymore could mean that it won't stay up much longer.

Someone has to know a little bit about the situation... websites usually require regular maintenance, it would be surprising if they were completely out of the picture. Maybe they're just keeping it going but want to keep a low profile ?

Yes, as Tech Guy said, the site can go off at anytime. I'm searching for another money management online app... have you guys find anything nice? Would you join me in this quest?

I have some problems with my accounts and I contacted premium support many times some time ago, but didn't receive any answer...
That's why I changed to another service, because without support and upgrades, this site has a dead-end for everyone.

The features may work as they are, but as soon as you need some help or something doesn't work the way it should be, you're trapped.

And there's the risk that the website can go offline any day and all your transaction data will be lost. Therefore I strongly suggest you to back-up your data weekly....

I am using Clearcheckbook. It doesn't have all features like Buxfer yet, but it's a new site where developers are actively making improvements, so I hope it will have all features soon. But it doesn't support automatic transaction import from your bank.

I am exploring pockesmith.. i like the interface, some functions and it seems cool but comparing to buxfer, well, the truth is, i like buxfer and it has some particular functionalities that are cool and pratical like (unlimited) and automatic tags, shared bills (for example, when you pay and have to split the transaction), easy reports that pocketsmith still doesn't have or are limited ones. But for now i'm on buxfer and pockesmith..
