Carmex as a treatment for eczema...

I have mild eczema on my face, and since I have a severe respiratory condition, many of the traditional eczema treatments have been ruled out by my doctor. I have tried many different things, but one day decided I would try putting some Carmex on the area, since I have used it on my lips (which chap easily in the cold Michigan winters) with great success. I noticed a marked improvement within about a day, and now frequently use Carmex for eczema flare ups. Is there any chance Carmex may develop a lotion?

  • I too have eczema (on my hand though) and have found that it works better than anything from the doctor to... resolve my rashes... I mean, if I use carmex as a hand lotion at least twice a day my hands look almost normal, are smooth to the touch, and I have almost no itching. Without carmex, just using prescribed steroids on my hands, I have have almost no itching but the rashes continue to hang around or even spread. I have now started using carmex on the eczema on my arm, it's gone now, and now have started using it on the eczema on my foot and it's getting better too!!! I wish someone had told me this years ago! I discovered it accidentally recently and couldn't be happier. It's not a cure, but it sure gets rid of each outbreak!

    Hi Bill

Thanks for the positive feedback. For many years we've received letters from customers telling us about the great success that they've had in using Carmex Lip Balm for a variety of conditions beyond it's intended purpose. Because of this, about three years ago I asked our chemist if he could use my grandfather's original Carmex formula as the basis of a non-greasy feeling skin/hand creme. As such our Healing Cream came first. Because of the popularity of lotions at the same time he developed our Healing Lotion. Generally companies like to sell lotions more than creams because lotions typically contain more water. Our CFO came to me and said, "Do you realize that our lotion costs us significantly more to make than the cream?" That's because of the vitamin E and the aloe that we include.

If you'd like to try a sample of the Healing Cream (or receive a complimentary travel size of the lotion) send me a brief note reminding me about this exchange along with your address and I'd be happy to put a sample in the mail for you. Send your note to my office:

  • Not sure if this is still open but Carmex heals my eczema too. And this is a big deal because when I was prescribed a topical solution from my dermatologist that has a side effect of skin cancer. I cried because I could not bring myself to risk cancer to clear up my eczema.

I get emotional thinking about how relieved and happy it make me that Carmex was a harmless solution that actually worked!!!

Thank you Paul and I am so thankful that your granfather's legacy lives on still touching lives.

    Hi Winona.

Thank you so much for writing. One of the reasons that we try to reply to everybody personally is because one of the most important lessons that my grandfather taught me. He said, "...that if anybody takes the time and effort to share their thoughts with us they deserve a reply." To further that thought, we fully recognize how lucky we are to have engaged customers like yourself.

When you say Carmex worked for your eczema, are you referring to our original lip care product or our skin-care cream and lotion? The reason that I ask is because if you are getting good results from the original Carmex lip care product I would like to send you a couple samples of the Healing Cream and Healing Lotion to try. Both are relatively new products for us. They start with my grandfather's original formula which our chemists then emulsify to create products which work as well but feel less greasy. The Cream is closest to the original Carmex in that it is a bit thicker and has a bit more of the original Carmex fragrance. The Lotion is a bit more sheer and includes vitamin E and aloe vera. Finally we have Carmex Healing Ointment which we sell in 4 ounce jars at Walgreens. This last product has a consistency closest in feel and formula to the original lip care product but in a larger size which might be helpful from a value point if you are using a lot of product.

Please mail me a brief note reminding me about this exchange along with your address so that I can send you a "care package". My address is:

  • I’m happy
    Hi All,

I just started using the Carmex Healing Cream last week, and I already love it!!! The creams/lotions for eczema from my doctor do not even compare. Some of the creams/lotions made my rash worse, or itch even more than it already did. Thank goodness for Carmex Healing Cream because it doesn't do anything of the sort, and it has already started to make my rash fade away. I can't stop putting it on!!! :-)

    Thank you soo much Carmex!!!

    Have a fabulous day!!

    Hi Cindee.

I apologize for taking over a month to reply to you. I am usually pretty prompt but in getting ready to clear out some old emails I just discovered that I missed your comment along with a few others.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm really glad to hear that you've found our Healing Cream to be helpful. If you'd like a complimentary travel size I'd be happy to send you one. And if so, please mail me a note reminding me about this along with your address. My address is:

  • Hi Everyone,
I am pregnant and can not use topical treatment for the eczema on my face (unfortunitely around my eye at the moment). I started using the lip balm on it a few weeks ago and it works great. I also dab a bit on pimples on my face and they clear faster. I have used Carmex since 9th grade - 23 years on my lips. I love your products and would love some samples. I will mail my address to you. Thank you for your wonderful product!

  • Glad, I found this forum. Like everyone else here, I also have eczema. My mother was told at the doctor's office, I would grow out of it when I was a child, but it comes back at times. I've den a lot which has improved it and my overall health in general. I have to first and foremost say-this stuff has always been great for lips and such. Sometimes the scent can be a little much for me-being a super taster-but I got used to it for the most part- so long as I don't accidentally get it in my mouth-it's all good! :) I always have the carmex moisturizing lip balm- it keeps my lips soft and surrounding area from being chapped and painful which is mostly triggered by certain lipsticks or environmental changes while also having a nice cooling sensation. I especially like to pair with my favorite lipstick a lot. It really seals in moisture and makes my lip colors of choice look much nicer. I decided on impulse to try it out on my arms and back of my legs where my flare ups started happening again after reading there was an anti-itch active ingredient... and right away I've found some relief! I'm trying to avoid needing to go back for another prescription for eczema relief since I try to leave it as a last resort, and I want a more natural/inexpensive fool-proof alternative! I have to say it's odd, but the Carmex lip balm stuff worked better than all the other shit that claims to be good. I mean- CMON, anyone who has eczema that can get as bad mine will probably say the same- Cortizone 10 and all the other so called amazing products-SUCK.I hate those products with a burning passion. I can hardly even call them a good moisturizer either and they smell terrible. I guess if you get poison ivy, such products might work, but honestly, they're fucking mediocre. I'm starting to really wonder about the possible formula to use on body? I'm incredibly happy my impulsive nature tried this out. The ingredients look simple too- I read there was petroleum jelly mixed in and beeswax-both great things and even lanolin- As a rule of thumb, generally speaking, I find that if you can read the ingredients- it's more likely to work well w/way less risk of side effects as opposed to the laundry list of ingredients my Southeast Texas accent can't pronounce to save my life off the box of a prescription cream medicine or formulas off the counter.
This stuff is just great overall. One of the best products I've ever used. I'm definitely gonna recommend this to others when I get the time to launch my beauty reviews and such.

    Hi Anita.

Thanks so much for writing. I really appreciate hearing from you. Because Carmex is monographed which means that we are FDA regulated and can ONLY recommend Carmex for what it is designed which is chapped lips and relief from the symptoms associated with cold sore, I am really happy to hear about the positive results that you've experienced. We make a couple of excellent skin care products, Carmex Healing Cream and Carmex Lotion. The cream is largely an emulsification of my grandfather's original Carmex formula so that it has a far less greasy feeling more appropriate for hands, arms and legs.

I'd be happy to send you a sample if you'd like. If you are, please mail me a brief note reminding me about this exchange along with your address and I'll put one in the mail for you. Please mail it directly to me at:

  • I’m thankful
I also have eczema and have tried different and expensive lotions and creams. I have always used Carmex, but never thought about putting it on the eczema around my lips until one day a couple months ago. It does not cure eczema, I don't know of anything that does, but it clears it up quickly. It is the only thing that I have found that works. Thank you!!

    Good morning, Lyderius.

Thanks for writing with your question and for being a valued Carmex customer. A letter like your's would really have made my grandfather's day. Walgreens and Wal*Mart both carry our Healing Cream and Lotion in their skin care department. When we first introduced them, the large tubes of skin care products were all Carmex yellow in color. We are transitioning our packaging into tubes that are a combination of white and yellow.

I'd be happy to send you a couple of complimentary samples to try if you'd like. If you are, please mail
me a brief note reminding me about this exchange along with your address

  • I’m thankful
I have had severe eczema ever since I was a little kid and now that I am 17 it has gotten increasingly worse and worse. I've been to countless doctors and dermatologists and have been given the same steroid creams over and over again. These medicines never seem to have much success. Recently my eczema has gotten so bad that I often find myself ashamed to go outside and have people see me and my skin. Maybe it's because of my age but I have found that eczema can be much more emotional than it should be. Today after one of my many outbreaks and found myself driven by desperation to try Carmex on my arm. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it works and even looking it up and seeing that other people have had the same results is such an encouragement. I say that to say to just keep doing whatever you're doing because you're doing it right. I have honestly never been more grateful and appreciative for a product in my life. Thank you.

  • I’m excited
I too suffer from eczema. Steroid creams seems to do nothing. For 25 + years i have had eczema on my hands. The winter is the worst, they crack and even bleed at there worst. I am going to try Carmex to see if i can get some relief, it sure is awsome on the lips. I have used it for years didn't think about using it on the hands. Thanks for the idea..
