Oh yeah, or maybe allow us to have a multiple choice of how we want to attack the monster...A. Use a spell B. Attack with Fork C. Distract him by throwing your sister at him. (well....maybe not that one. /;-])
Having a clearer idea of how stats affect the character's ability to do different fighting moves and do things like distract (Intelligence or charisma?) would make fighting more interesting. So would having different monsters be vulnerable to different types of attacks.
