Connecting to ClearDB with MySQL Workbench

So I'm trying to set up MySQL Workbench to be able to connect to my recently created ClearDB database, but I seem to be running into the same error no matter what I change.

I can't find a whole lot of resources on this problem, nor connecting to ClearDB with MySQL workbench in general, but I only have a basic understanding of remote database connections so I'm not sure where to go from here. Here's how my connection setup looks:

I'm assuming someone will invariably ask if my machine / network's firewall is blocking port 3306. To those people I ask, wouldn't that also keep me out of my local instance databases that I've set up in MySQL? Is there some other way I can test connection to that remote server to check if my network firewall is blocking it in some way?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am quite stumped.

  • Hello,

Are you including your password in the connection setup? (Where it says, "Will be requested later if it's not set" - that's not accurate. If you haven't put in the password you won't be able to connect.)

Regarding the port blockage, it's possible that port 3306 could be blocked for traffic leaving your local machine or network, but not inside that net. I just googled up this tool which should let you see if port 3306 is open for your system: http://www.canyouseeme.org

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Yup, sure enough, canyouseeme.org cannot see me on port 3306 or any port for that matter. I kind of figured it was an issue with traffic being blocked from my machine. However I do not have the ability to change the settings of the network I am currently on, so this looks like something I'll have to test further sometime tonight.

Thank you so much for your help Michael! Hopefully with testing later tonight everything will be fully functional and I can close this thread. Though there might be more underlying issues (such as the password inclusion that I didn't have before).
