Transitioning from in-house mysql services to cleardb cloud-based mysql services

We are looking for a cloud-based mysql solution to replace our existing in-house database servers. I am very interested in what cleardb has to offer, but I need to know more before I can determine if it's a solution that will fit our needs.

First, how would we go about having our in-house applications use a cleardb mysql service instead of a local service? Is it as simple as pointing it to the new datasource, or must we install special software?

Also, perhaps I'm misreading the documentation, but it would appear that only cloud-based apps (not apps hosted locally) are able to access the Dedicated/Private MySQL Database Cluster plans. Would we actually need to go to the Enterprise level, or am I mistaken?

Thank you in advance,
Andy Honeycutt
