Wordpress on Azure and ClearDB

tl;dr - Since launching my Wordpress site on Azure using ClearDB my site goes down often producing a "502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server." Current resolution is to restart the Azure website.

BACKGROUND
I've installed Wordpress using the gallery for Azure Websites and upgraded to the $10 a month ClearDB service.

I launched the website last weekend. Since launching my website, I have experienced a half a dozen outages resulting in a "502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server." The only way to resolve the issue is to restart the Azure website.

What diagnostic steps can I take to rule out ClearDB as being part of the problem?
