Go cardless and stripe charges

I am trying to work out the best method of payment. My members do not want a monthly automatic standing order and would rather action their own payments each month. It seems that stripe allows this because of debit card payments but the charges are high.

Can we do something similar on go cardless? Ideally where the player makes the payment or authorises the payment rather than it being automatically taken? Does anyone use go cardless for this. I imagine the user would need to set up a direct debit but only through this blue payment button I have heard of but can’t visualise?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Tim, so we offered both strip and Go Cardless options for parents, providing a one-off payment and direct debit facility, and this works really well. Cuts back on the majority of debt collection by team managers and the fees are low enough to be absorbed or maybe implement a small annual increase in registration fees to cover it.

However, we have now offered a third option, Paypal, including the link on the website for miscellaneous payments. Why?

Well, Paypal is offering various club incentives to football clubs, through the FA, to use this as a payment service, along with the whole game match app, so it's worth considering, contact your local FA for more info.

So its a win for the club, and another payment option for parents.

Thanks for this Steve

Do you know if it is possible to make one off payments using GoCardless? I know that other sports have used the programme outside of ClubBuzz to make one off payments for match fees. This would seem a lot cheaper than Stripe? Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Tim,
Yes, it's definitely possible to use GoCardless for one off payments in ClubBuzz, at least in the Gold version.

If you have set up PayPal and GoCardless in ClubBuzz, when a member gets their e-statement on 15th of the month, they can choose either of these to make a one time payment.

If they make the payment through GoCardless, it looks in GoCardless as though the member has set up a direct debit mandate, however ClubBuzz doesn't treat it as such and will only request a payment for that particular transaction.

This confused us for a while but ClubBuzz now has reports in Reports/Financial Reports/ which show you who has set up a direct debit mandate, who has made one time payments and by which method.

The only way to set up a direct debit mandate is for a member to go into their Account and set up the dd through Account Settings so, as long as they pay via the statement, they won't end up with a direct debit that they don't want.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Alan
