Selection of underage squards

In the league our junior teams are in the age is based on the age of the player on 1st September the previous year.

So for the 2014 season - any player under 15 on the 1st September 2013 can play

However in the team setting screen it only goes by age - on the date of the match. As this is rule is fairly common for underage leagues can we set the max age by a certain date?

The way the system was set up was to recognise age at time of the event. Interested to hear feedback from other clubs on how they work with this??

No, any feedback will appear on this page so nothing yet, may find cricket clubs will become more active with feedback closer to the season

That type of age - date system is very common in athletics as well.

We are taking a look at this and considering how it affects other aspects of the system (namely allocating a junior to a membership category)

I can't think offhand of a single children's sport that DOES use "age on the date of the match" as a cut-off; every sport I can think of uses "age at the start of the season". 

We just don't use the system for squad selection for our junior sides -- do it off-system by spreadsheet, which is a shame.

They need a parameter Season starts (1st September 2016) and then an extra display field on the record Age at Start of Season.  This should be on all the applicant and member filters too.

Our junior categories work the same as the cut off ages for the teams (1st Sept) - so if someone turns 19 on the 2nd of September in 2016 they are Under 18 for 2017

We have plans to introduce age ranges for squads expect this to be by January

We are beginning to think this is a deal breaker for us using the system.  When we start again next season (September) we will have to manually take all those moving up an age group off one team and add them to another.  With over 300 members that's a lot of work as opposed to selecting all those who are x years old on 1st September 2017 and changing their squad.

I just rename the teams staying with the eldest. So (for example) take this year's U16s off the system, then rename U15 team to U16, then rename U14 team to U15, then rename U13 team to U14, etc.

It makes their order in the admin screens a bit odd, but much easier than moving all the players around, and the order of the teams in the About our Club section is customizable anyway.

There is now ability to add a date range instead of age range in team set up.  All teams will default to age range but this can be manually changed go to sports/team and make the changes

Sarah, is this working correctly? I'm trying to isolate members aged between 17-20 or more precisely born after 01/01/1998 but before 31/08/2000.

Instead of keying age 17 I have keyed a Min DOB of 31/08/2000. This correctly shows our older athletes (i.e. this who'll be 17 or older at 31/08/2000).

Separately, instead of keying age 20 I have keyed Max DOB of 01/01/1998. This correctly shows our younger athletes (i.e. those under 20).

When I combine the 2 dates I would expect this to show this between 17-20, however the following message is displayed:

"2 errors prohibited this user session from being saved
  • Min dob must be before max DOB
  • Max dob must be after min DOB"

I've tried reversing the dates but this shows "0 qualifying members"
