can not send email only receive it

I am receiving a error "outlook cannot connect to your outgoing SMTP email server sending reported error (0x80042109)" when I am sending email. I am able to receive emails. I called Comcast and was told it was a network virus. If this is so what can I do to get rid of this virus. The Comcast employee would not help me at all. He told me to call my computer manufacturer since I use AVG Free as my Antivirus program. I have looked it up on the computer and this seems to be a problem with quite a few people but I don't see a solution anywhere. I would really love some help.

lkpink30,

I apologize. I was hoping you had an alternate email you could send me your information from instead of posting your personal contact information on the web. Please call our executive offices at 215.286.1700 and ask for Melissa. I will tell the team to be aware and ready to forward the call to me. Sorry for the confusion.

Sincerely,
Melissa M.

I am having this problem as well. It seems after the e-mail upgrade, I can no longer send e-mails either. They may not be related, but it seems that way. I was wondering if Comcast changed the smtp info and I just missed it.

I was able to fix my e-mail problem although I do think it was caused by the switchover. None of my settings changed yet I couldn't send e-mail anymore. My wife's Comcast e-mail still worked on her computer. I changed my settings to copy hers and it worked.

I still cannot send out e-mails using in Outlook 2003 using the suggested settings in provided for smartzone and outlook. Why would you not let your customers know that this type of change would happen and advise them ahead of time how to update their settings so they could use their usual e-mail program?

not sure whether it applies in your case, but in the change account > more settings (trying to remember the actual place off the top of my head as i don't have outlook anymore) anyhow, the outgoing (smtp server) if that's set to 25 right now, try changing it to 587. Also, where it says "My server requires authentication" make sure that box is checked and it's set to "use the same settings as my incoming mail server"
sometimes with that message it's port 25 that's blocked.
Like I said, not sure if it'll help you specifically, but it worked for me so throwing it out there
