Is Comcast Good or Bad?

Would you recoment Comcast to a freind?
I would not. I feel that they have gotten to big for their own good. The new Microsoft requiring us to use their junk (their DTA Cable Box). I don't want their junk. My digital tuners on my tv are much faster and when I hook up their box my picture is very bad. If I had a choice I would not have Comcast .

I'm just wondering if I'm alone here. Please let me know if you think comcast is good or bad.

    I agree with you! Comcast has indeed become a little to big. When they first started out the service was great along with the customer service. Now Comcast could care less about your service or satisfaction. They need to study other large companys that have gone out of business for a lack of caring or thinking they are untouchable.. Company executives need to pay attention to this issue.Good customer service is the MOST important product to be offered. Its also a product that Comcast dosen't offer its customers. Verizon is looking better every day!

      I have not had any problems with their customer service until just recently, They sent a representative to our condo complex. I asked the rep. if Comcast was planning on encrypting their digital channels and he didn’t know what encrypting was and wasn’t familiar with digital tuners. I think they got their rep. from labor ready. The city of Tacoma has their own cable company, it’s called Click Network, because Comcast didn’t want to install fiber optic lines in Tacoma within a time frame that the city was happy with. I wish the condos I live in would give up on Comcast and switch to this network.

  • If I had DSL available I would drop comcast in a heartbeat. Their customer service is horrendous. If you have to call them for anything you will be so mad at the end of it all that rabbit ears and dial up will look like a better alternative.

    I'm kind of pathetic I'm happy with microsoft. I honestly believe that they care about their customers.

    I'm not happy with Comcast either. When it comes to each and every TV, even those with the new digital clear-QAM tuners, having to have a box to view channels.. it's time to check out the alternatives. FIOS and dish networks require a box per TV, but FIOS isn't in my area and I am not sure a dish would work in my neighborhood. Maybe it's time to get an antenna and go OTA. Withdrawal from espn, espn2 and vs will be tough..

    I'm not sure why you call it "the new Microsoft Comcast". The Microsoft software has been running on the cable boxes for at least a year now. Not sure who wrote the DTA firmware (nor care), but I'm fairly sure it was Comcast's decision to encrypt. They may have been pressured by content providers.

    I've had no real technical problems with Comcast cable, except losing service for days after large snowfalls. I consider extended basic overpriced, and can't justify $6.50/mo for an HD cable box. I refuse to pay $17/mo just to see the Science Channel (little else in the next tier interests me).

    If TV programming doesn't improve soon, I may chuck cable altogether and just use Fancast/Hulu with my DSL connection.

  • For the largest part, I was happy with comcast. I hate the idea of them making us rent their cable boxes. Come on, why would any TV network want their channel encrypted. They make their money from advertising and amount of viewers. Why would they want to make it harder for viewers to view their network. Comcast is hoping that all their lazy tv viewers will sit on their on butts and use pay per view instead of going to the video store. Comcast gets enough of our money. If we want these features, well rent a box.

    Comcast == Bad

    I have no experience with their phone service, but the other two it offers are bad. They throttle your bandwidth (if you are using 100% of your bandwidth for more than a short period of time) and you can't use your built-in ATSC tuner in place of their crappy cable box. If I had other options, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

    ATSC is for over the air only, you need a QAM tuner to get cable and good luck finding a TV with a digital QAM tuner.

    I'm very happy with my internet connection with comcast and my picture quality is great. I hate having to use and rent their crappy boxes. I'm sure with time we will be able to use something else, but for now I HATE COMCAST AND THEIR CRAP THEY ARE CRAMMING DOWN OUR THROATS! All new tv's have clear qam digital tuners.

  • Really? All I ever see is this: "Built-in HDTV tuner: Add HD-capable antenna to receive over-the-air high-definition broadcasts, where available. Optional set-top box required for high-definition cable or satellite programming."
    Where are you seeing TV's with digital QAM tuners? I need two that are no larger than 22 - 23".

  • Hi, i live in Cutler Bay Florida i recently upgraded to the up to 50mbit package from the 8 to 12mbit package. But before i did i called 3 times to confirm on a cap of any sort from 3 separate representatives i got 3 of the same answers all said No but one rep knew or just wanted to tell me why, He said there are not enough people on the tier to implement a cap?????. Soooo i was fast to upgrade i already had a docsis3.0 modem so all i needed was just to turn on and off my modem the rep said EASY RIGHT? BOOM my speeds were cut to 6mbits!!! down and 15mbits up!!! wtf wtf wtf i demanded to make sure i had the right modem configuration file its all my fault more than 10 reps told me but i just had 30mbits?? on a 8 to 12 mbits package i told them. Yes they send a tech now 2 days later great he comes ontime. Oh great this tech is changes metal boxes on my pole he must be fixing it right? No! he did all that crap just to tell me an engineer has to come here and set my correct speeds.... Nice the engineer comes 2 days later does the same crap changes metal boxes. He leaves without telling me nothing my speeds are the same 6mbits down 15mbits up peak hours 4mbits down 8mbits up. Then the day before a supervisor was going to come out I ran a speed test and started getting what i was supose to get and more my speed tests maxed at 62mbits sometimes 77mbits and my upload always stayed at 10mbits ): the most i got when downloading was 7MB/sec it would stay at 7MB/sec for around 20 seconds then go down to 4MB/sec then right back to 7MB/sec constantly all in all comcast's speeds are great for my area but when comcast is bad its insanely bad.

    ps: when an alternative 50mbit service hits cutler bay florida im switching just due to the customer support

    ps: Id rather host on an 50mbit connection on an gigabit setup in my home than in a datacenter on a 10mbit port on a 100mbit link for the same price thats just me

    Comcast is horrible, but so is Verizon. They could care less about customer satisfaction. I have a great deal with Comcast now. Month to month, no contract! I am still paying less to Comcast and getting more than I was Verizon. No more contracts for me. I want the ability to have my voice heard. With the option to leave at anytime, my issues have been addressed quickly. Now we need to find a way to have cell phone service offered with no contract! That would be a win win for all of us!

  • Im very happy with comast. I've had them for a very long time and they've solved all my issues and even put me in promotion mulitiple times. All cable companies have there tech issues but if I call and explain they come and do their job. im happy with the xfinity producuts too. Their blast internet is very reliable and hardly every goes down. and their phone service is just as good as any,

  • COMCAST is the worst internet provider on the market. They are full of hidden fees, I've been transferred around and hung up on many times. The Technicians are independent even though they will all tell you they get paid by the hour, I have 20mps High speed internet, They promised me a gateway with build in wireless and I got a modem that looks like its from the local dollar store with one port and NO wireless capabilities. The technician gave me a used router and said he would come 0back to install the Gateway; I never heard from him again and I was charged over 100 dollars in fees for the set up. Total first month for internet alone came to over two hundred dollars. I called them to have the technician come back and they wanted to charge me another 50 bucks for service call or something of the sort. I finally got to someone working from home and she 'took care of me' she is sending me the gateway IN THE MAIL. lol i cant

  • Comcast in my opinion has out-priced themselves. No matter what I did to reduce my bill they slowly over a short period of time figured a way to raise it right back to where it was. We used to have free television but apparently the American people didn't want it anymore and have agreed to patronize these cable companies whose promise is to deliver much more program material. Yes there was a time we had only 13 free channels, but they contained quality programs that could be enjoyed and watched by the entire family.

    Don't get me started with Verizon, in my opinion this is a company that is the worst wireless carrier ever and they could care less about any of their customers needs, they also don't back up what they sell. They are strictly profit motivated which is the American way only if the company recognizes that their bread and butter, their customers are their most valuable asset.
