Default Shipping Options

  • Question

Our checkout page displays 2 shipping options (UPS & USPS) however our radio button is pre-selected for USPS which is most always the highest rate, thereby turning customers away to shop elsewhere for less. The default pre-selected shipping method should be optional depending on the needs of each company. Or... both rates should be shown to let the customer determine their preference.

Yes Yes Yes- it is so frustrating- I cannot believe a live cart defaults to the highest rate- I would like them to show all the rates!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, to have both US Mail & UPS shipping options displayed to our customer at checkout, it will cost us yet another $500.00. After our paying said additional fee, all other companies will be able to add the same feature (at our expense). There is something seriously wrong with this.

No doubt- why don't they charge every customer an additional amount to use this service and refund the company that paid them in the first place?

Marketing tactic to put more money in Core's pocket?
Very smart I agree- instead of Core looking at this as a benefit
to market to other companies- they charge one company the 500.00
and benefit for themselves

We have implemented a new shipping wizard ( called the hybrid method) were you can organize the carriers in the order you want them. Using this method you can also choose which methods you want to show up first.

It appears we are currently able to do this Joseph. How long ago was this feature added?

It has been a couple of months. We put this feature out with one of our releases a couple of months ago.

Although we do not see the shipping wizard hybrid listed in our options, we have been able to select a default ship method and have a drop down option that the customer can choose from for some time now.

What would be even better is to have a drop down menu which the customer could add additional products to from other categories and, have the shipping combined to one total - either US Mail or UPS.

If you go into your shipping zones you should see a method called Hybrid.

As far as the adding more products to the cart they would need to do that in the view cart page and click continue shopping, which would allow them to add more items to the cart and then it will recalculate the shipping for them.
