Let's stop highlighting zero discounts just before the customer completes their order

If no discounts are applicable to an order, I'd really like the discount line to be hidden from the bottom of the checkout page. At the moment "Discount: -$0.00" displays above the grand total which highlights to the customer that they did not receive a discount - no customer wants to be reminded of this and it could even provoke them to continue looking for the same items on sale elsewhere instead of completing their order (no need to plant that seed!).

Likewise, let's remove the "$0.00 discount" AND the "$0.00 gift certificate" from the invoice automatically emailed to customers.

Yes, please - it's not a great point to highlight just before making a purchase!

Has any progress been made on this? It really does not need to be there and I agree, I don't want customers emailing me for discounts if there are none!

Yes, great idea.

We also sell wholesale to small shops and so we don't offer discounts that would make our webstore pricing compete with them. The discount line item implies that these discounts may in fact exist and therefore we may be undercutting them.

Yes, please have them hidden when the discount or gift certificate amount is $0. I just had someone ask for a discount today on an already discounted bulk lot because they saw the discount line.

Yes, also when the printed receipt shows the 0.00 discounts it does remind people that some other people got a discount and it creates a negative feeling when it could be avoided.

I don't see any "employee" comments here. I'd love to know if this is on their radar.

I've been working with the 'new' one page checkout and it seems that $0.00 amount lines are not shown (so far). I still have a little bit of formatting to do, but it looks pretty good. I don't see gift certificate or discount lines when those discounts do not apply, but the tax line does show $0.00 when the sale is not taxed.

If you are using the new one-page checkout ("Recommended"), the discount line only shows if there is actually a discount being applied. However, at this time the discount line will still always show on the multipage checkout, as well as the old legacy one-page checkout that some older stores may still be using.

Megan, thanks for pointing that out. Is it possible to have the zero discounts and gift certificate lines removed from the Printer Friendly Receipts also?

Is there some code that I could add to the Printer Friendly Receipts template that would make it conditional, like only show if it is non-zero?

Unfortunately right now there's no way to do that. There is a token that can be outright removed (which would work for stores that never offer discounts), but there's no way at this time to make it conditional. Hopefully this is something we'll be able to address in a future release (personally, I'd love to see a lot more customization options for templates and emails).

It's great that we can now hide the "zero discount" line by using the one-page checkout. But when the customer looks at their Order History, it's still there. A nice reminder that we didn't give that customer a discount. And from there, when the customer wants to generate a Printer Friendly Receipt, there it is again: "Discount: -$0.00"

We should be able to turn this off.

If it can be hidden when there is no discount applied in the one-page checkout, CoreCommerce should be able to hide it in the Order History and Printer Friendly Receipt as well.

We are pleased to advise that this was addressed in the recent June release. Zero discounts should now be hidden on any reporting and communication. Please let us know what you think.

The "Thank You" page has regrown a "discount" column again using one of the responsive templates...

Going to try to tweak the page to remove it.

Worth checking to see if it's reappeared and producing buyer remorse on missing out on a non-existent discount.
