Improve Stamps.com export file

Does anyone use the Stamps.com export file? I am confused about why that file does not contain data like "weight" and "ship via" and "total". That information is needed to print postage through Stamps.com software. It would also be helpful to define a mail piece. (package, thick envelope, etc.)

CC should do it via API with stamps.com, instead of using an export file. This is more of an idea or may be just an opinion.

Shipping should be super automated. For some reason with most carts its a very manual affair. ShipRush, Shipworks, Endicia (Dazzle), and OrderCup are other shipping solutions that may offer better integration with CC.

I tried the dazzle export file for shipping initially. The export file selected the mail class (first class, priority, etc) based on the total weight and it would not detect if a customer had voluntarily selected an upgraded class. It was too time consuming to try to manually confirm that the exported class was indeed the class that the customer had selected and paid for.

I could never anywhere with international addresses either in the CC/Dazzle integration. I had a long, long conversation with support about dazzle export file. It has too many quirks to be efficient. The "integration" needs to be more integrated IMO.

I was told that my store could be customized for shipworks for a fee. Has anyone tried that?

I agree... Shipping should be super automated. It's the biggest and most consistent headache with online commerce.

If a customer pays with PayPal, would be nice if the tracking information would populate automatically into the sale record on CoreCommerce after you have done the shipping through paypal.

Stamps.com export:
The Stamps.com export needs to have a field that has the weight of the product and the shipping method. To manually enter each weight and shipping method is very time consuming.

If Corecommerce had to ship 10-100 packages a day via Stamps.com, I'm confident that the Stamps.com export function would work correctly.

It's possible that they don't realize how time consuming it is to use in it's present form.

Please, everyone that feels that this function should be upgraded, reply with their thoughts.

Thanks GS

You can get a scale that interfaces to stamps.com to save some time.

Yes it is now 8 months later since this thread was started and I am still hating the Stamps.com export file. Man can you please upgrade the whole thing so that at least when we export the files, it populates what it is supposed to in the stamps.com program. I mean it would be even better if it was directly integrated into the cart like some of the other carts out there but I can live with just a good export file.

I found that the regular export file has better data fields for importing into stamps than the stamps.com file. The mailpiece doesn't import but since most of our mailpieces are the same so we had to creatively "map" the mailpiece in stamps so that it would populate.

Too bad the file that is created for stamps.com is so inadequate for stamps.com.

I agree also. My understanding is that this should be a simple rewrite of the mysql export script, and that they should be able to even change the names of fields to accommodate the different labeling in Stamps.com. The "regular" export file is more comprehensive, but it would still be nice to just be able to link up and go!

An 8 month old, but active thread and no comments from CC? I'm actually hoping the Shipworks integration happens but in the meantime I would expect the Stamps.com exports to be more useful...

I don't really mind who they integrate with but I wish CC would integrate properly with ONE online USPS shipping service. The current system prints unpaid labels which raises shipping 10% and more time at the Post Office. Manually exporting files to Stamps.com is just plain messy and time consuming. Has anything happened in the 5 months this thread has been dormant?

Hi-- I totally agree with David. This is a huge problem. With the cart I used to use, it was integrated with Stamps.com so that I could hit "refresh" and have all orders immediately imported, including weight, etc. Corecommerce is great, but the time I am wasting on configuring import files and reentering addresses is becoming a problem.

I know Stamps.com works with Dazzle ok, but Dazzle has a lousy user interface and doesn't allow batch printing (Endicia Professional does for 2X the price of Stamps.com). For high-volume days its a real mess.

wondering... did the previous cart also post back shipping data (tracking numers, etc) automatically? Stamps.com creates a shipping data file which we use to import data back to CC but if someone ever forgets to import that file after shipping, the orders can easily get shipped twice.

Yes. It was a beautiful thing. The customer's status was automatically changed to "Shipped" so I never had to worry about shipping an order twice. I could also look up any customer's tracking information from within the cart (instead of having to go into Stamps.com).

At the very least, we need a good export .csv file.

Not only that but the current process of exporting data is confusing enough I don't trust any of our staff to do it. This needs to be fully integrated and simple as it's a huge and painful time drain.

This would turn a great service into something really wonderful.

For a small business like mine with just one person (me!) any extra time spent shipping means totally unproductive time.

The savings I could achieve by having a mediocre integration with Stamps.com would more than cover my monthly CC fee. It's annoying to look at the lists of cart providers on their site when most everything else on CC is perfect for me.

Thanks, Kris. CC really needs a decent shipping solution integration. Imports & exports are just clunky and awkward.

There's also a similar thread right now about Endicia.

Here's what I would like, in a perfect world.

From the order details screen, default shipping size and weight from the product data. Adjust size, weight, shipping date and service as appropriate. Hit "print postage ". Printer prints out label, with stealth, paid postage. Customer gets email with tracking details. Status updated to shipped.

I don't really care whose service is used. I don't want to have to cut and paste addresses, export and import files.

I use stamps.com in my store. Can anyone give me a step by step on the best way to set it up?
