What is Get Satisfaction?

Get Satisfaction is a software company that builds and maintains a customer community platform. Our headquarters are in San Francisco, CA, with engineering offices in Cambridge, MA, and Austin, TX. Thousands of companies across the world have used our software to power their own customer communities.

The idea behind creating a customer community is simply to create a space where a brand’s customers can come and interact with each other, and with the brand. Users can ask questions, share ideas, report problems, and give praise to the brand that they’re interacting with. They can also vote on conversations that they agree with, give stars to answers that make sense, and develop stronger relationships with the brand and with other customers in the community.

Get Satisfaction simply builds and maintains the software that powers our customer’s community sites. We do not provide technical support for any company or service other than our own.

Why do I need a user profile?

A user profile linked to a unique email address is required in order to participate in any Get Satisfaction-powered community. User profiles are free, and you will never be charged for having one.

We require user profiles in order to participate in a community for the same reason that both Facebook and LinkedIn require user profiles in order to participate on their platforms – a community is about the people who are in it, and it is difficult to develop healthy relationships if you do not know who someone is. User accounts also help to encourage positive online behavior in the community, and allow for you to have access to content you’ve submitted to a community all in one place.

How did I sign up for a user profile?

There are a variety of ways to sign up for a user profile depending on how the company has set up the login experience to their community.

Most companies have implemented single sign-on, a feature that lets you sign into their community using the account information that you already have with that community’s parent company. This allows for a seamless experience between the company’s website and the community site.

Additionally, you can also sign up for an account by opting to log in with Google, Facebook, or Twitter. When you opt to log in with one of those 3 providers, the email address attached to your user profile is the same email address attached to your Google, Facebook, or Twitter accounts. If you participate in a company’s community via our Facebook application, an account will be created for you leveraging your Facebook credentials.

Creating a user profile means you’ve accepted our Terms of Service, Cookie, and Privacy policies. We are TRUSTe certified and Safe Harbor compliant.

How do I modify or update my user profile?

To modify your user profile, roll over your username in the top menu bar and choose the “Profile Information” link from the drop-down menu.


 

 

Some customers have chosen to remove the black user profile bar at the top of their community. If that happens, they usually have a “Your Dashboard & Account” link near the top of the page.

If the black profile bar doesn’t appear, look for a Your Dashboard & Account link

 

Click on the Profile Information page to edit your personal information, including: your nickname, avatar, tagline, location, and website links. Remember that when you post in any community on Get Satisfaction, your display name will be associated with your post. If you don’t want your full name to appear with your content, be sure to set a “Nickname” and do not check the “Show my real name instead of my nickname” box.

Is my user profile public?

Yes. All user profiles are public, but they are not indexed by search engines. The way someone could navigate to your user profile would be by clicking on your name from the community itself.

The following fields, assuming they are filled out, are viewable by those who visit your profile URL:

  • Your Username (either be your Real Name, or your Nickname)
  • Your Tagline
  • Your Location
  • Your Twitter account
  • Your Flickr account
  • Your Website/ Blog URL
  • Conversations that you are following
  • Conversations that you’ve replied to
  • Conversations that you’ve created
  • Conversations that you’ve agreed with (given a +1 vote)

If you have participated in a private community the community content will be hidden from view, but the following fields will be public:

  • Your Username (either be your Real Name, or your Nickname)
  • Your Tagline
  • Your Location
  • Your Twitter account
  • Your Flickr account
  • Your Website/ Blog URL

How can I change or reset my password?

To change the password on your user profile roll over your username in the top menu bar and choose the “Profile Information” link from the drop-down menu. Then click “Account Information” on the left hand side. From there, you will be able to change your current password.

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can request a new one by visiting https://getsatisfaction.com/login and clicking the blue “forgot password” link. A password reset link will be emailed to the user account on file.

How can I fully remove my user profile from Get Satisfaction?

If you no longer wish to be a member in a Get Satisfaction-powered community, or if you created your profile by mistake, follow these steps to fully remove your user profile from the application.

  • Roll over your username in the top menu bar and choose the “Email & Notifications” page.
  • Once on the Email & Notifications page, add an email address ending in @example.com as a new email address on your account. Remember, email addresses in our system must be unique so it’s easiest to enter an email address formatted like this: your.name@example.com.
  • Once you’ve added a fake email address, remove your actual email address from the account. Simply click the “remove” link located on the right hand side of your email address.
  • Click the “Profile Information” page. If you’d like, replace your name & avatar with a random name and image.
  • Once you’re satisfied that your name, email address, and image have been removed, navigate to the section of the Profile Information page that says “Close Your Account”
  • Enter your password into the “Current Password” field, and then click the “Close Account” button

After you removing your name and email address, close your profile.

How can I close my paid community account with Get Satisfaction?

As a reminder, user profiles are always free to have. If you are paying for a community powered by Get Satisfaction, closing your user profile will not close the community or cancel a paid community account.

If you are paying for your community on a monthly basis, please review the Account & Billing Information page for instructions on cancellation. If you are paying for your community on an annual basis, please submit a ticket to our team and we will help process the cancellation.
