This is what Chrome notified me about today, perhaps it will be useful to fellow Crossriders, and also included in some of the recommended Chrome debugging/deployment processes: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/de...
I looks like a separate app that lists installed apps/extensions, and allows to see their console, their "behaviour" (interactions with tabs and pages in the browser), allows updating, repackaging etc.
This could be helpful!

Hm, and it looks like Chrome is now automatically deleting dev extensions after reboot, without even asking. I guess they're tightening the screws even more.

Hello Anton,
Thanks for the information. Which version of Chrome are you using?
I'm currently on 37 and I see the Chrome App you mention and I also get requests whether I want to keep Dev extension. Are you saying that in the new version (38) the dev extensions are removed automatically without prompting? (If so, I weary of upgrading :-( but I guess I'll have o bit the bullet sooner or later) -

Hi Shlomo,
I am on Win Chrome 37.0.2062.103m, and it did uninstall it silently twice already. It was asking me for confirmation up until Friday night, so I assume it is a feature of new version. May be not a major version, though. -

1Hello Anton,
Thanks. I accepted the the latest Chrome update and it still appears to prompt for removing local/dev extensions. Maybe it's something peculiar to your environment. Either way, thanks for the info. -

Hi Anton,
You can use Chrome Canary to develop extensions without having them automatically disabled!
It's a side by side install, so your stable Chrome will remain on your machine.

That's a really good idea, thank you!

Nope, even Canary removes the extension :( May be it is some setting deeper under the hood which I am not aware of.
