Internet Explorer extension is inoperative. I was able to successfully build and install with Firefox and Chrome, but the IE extension died before it could even make a call to my server.
Is there a log or some sort of troubleshooting I can do to determine what might be the cause of this?

What OS and IE versions do you use?
Also, several questions to identify this problem in a better way:
1. After installing the exe, did you notice alert saying "thank you for installing..."?
2. After installing (or after restarting IE), do you see small Crossrider icon at the status bar of your IE?
3. If the answer to #2 was yes, please click on it and do you see empty page or your app details in it?
Once I get your reply we will try to solve this asap! -

Hey Koby thanks for the quick reply.
This was with Windows 7 and IE 8.0.7600.
1. I did receive the "Thank you for install CrossRider apps" message.
2. No CrossRider icon is present on the status bar.
If it helps at all my CrossRider client id was 216.
Thanks,
Mike -

Tried again (same Windows 7 and IE 8) with a super simple test app (240) and it also displayed the same behavior.

Thanks Michael.
We are debugging this issue at the moment and I think we have found the cause of it.
It's not matter of what app you are trying to run but some permission issues while running our engine. (so it will happen on every app you will try)
Hopefully we will upload new version later today which I think will help but in the meanwhile it will be great if you can help us with several questions:
- Can you please check that you have the folder (and files) at your CrossriderWebApps folder, under Program Files
- Can you please open your registry and send me a screenshot of your Crossrider keys/values to koby [at] crossrider [dot] com ?
- 3. If you have the files and registry: at the registry you have "WriteHelperLogFile", please change it to 1 and re-run IE. This should create helper.cr file at your CrossriderWebApps folder. Please open 2-3 pages send me the new helper.cr file.
I really appreciate your help on this!

Koby,
1. I do have a C:\Program Files (x86)\CrossriderWebApps directory
2. I don't have a HKEY Local Machine\Software\Crossrider registry entry (I actually did a full registry search for it as well). -
-
Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but this is the 64bit install of Windows 7.
-
-
Can you please check your registry at:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AppDataLow\Software\Crossrider
Thanks! -
-
Alright with that bit of information, I have for you,
The helper.cr file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3175742/Helpe...
The registry screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3175742/2011-... -

That's very helpful!
One last request re this:
- can you please open your task manager and kill the process Crossrider.exe
- Go back to the registry and delete the key 'Bic'
- Run Crossrider.exe again (from CrossriderWebApps folder)
- Browse to a page or two and resend me the helper.cr file
I'm almost sure this is the problem we are trying to fix now but want to be sure. -
-
-
-
Thanks.
We will prepare new version that I hope will fix this (and if not it will provide us with more info re the problem). I'm pretty confident though this issue will be solved soon! -
-
We have being able to recreate this bug and fixed it.
Can you please try to install the latest version? (it's already updated on the server) - I think it's the best to kill the Crossrider.exe process first although not sure it's necessarily.
I hope it will solve this issue -
-
Koby,
Tried re-installing multiple times (with and without killing the Crossrider process), still no luck.
I uploaded a new Helper.cr file if that helps any.

I looked at the log and I think the problem is solved but my instructions wasn't good enough (due to leftovers from previous version). Let's try the following:
- Go to your installation page on Crossrider and click install (no need to download and/or run the exe file again)
- Kill the Crossrider.exe process
- Go to the registry and delete the 'Bic' key (this will flag our engine that it needs to start over the installation process for first app installed)
- Go to the CrossriderWebApps directory and run Crossrider.exe file
If I'm reading the log correctly, this should install your app (obviously it's not the process any 'regular' user needs to go through with fresh installation)
Crossing my fingers :) -
-
No luck, I updated the Helper.cr file again if that holds any help.
This is just a dev machine I'm testing windows with, do you want remote access to it?

I’m
grateful
:(
I see it's the exact same bug (can't read the cookie of the app you want to install)
Did you run Crossrider.exe as admin or simply double-click it?
For some reason it runs as admin (High Integrity) while it shouldn't. Now we have more info so I guess we will go back to our lab and try to fix this asap.
I can't thank you enough for all your help on this! You are a real life saver and all I can do now is to promise you we will solve this as soon as possible!
re remote access: with the info from your log we can now recreate it (to the exact situation you are facing) so no need to connect your machine (for now :) -

It took us some time but I think we've covered all corner cases.
We do need your help though to verify this is working for you :)
Can you please try to uninstall the current Crossrider app (not mandatory if you kill the Crossrider.exe process) and delete the 'Bic' key from registry.
Then try to install your app from our server (i.e., to download and run the new EXE)
If this doesn't work then please try to download the exe and run it with this param: /App=216 (216 is your app id if I'm not wrong)
^^ it's different approach (not a real solution) and I hope we will not get there but if yes, it might provide us with additional information.
Looking forward to hear the good news ;-)
Thanks again for your help! -

Success! It worked and I was able to get our extension running with Internet Explorer.
Also, can someone from Crossrider please email me at michaelbuckbee@gmail.com ?
Thanks,

hi,
I have the same problem as the above. The extension is installed successfully in Chrome and Firefox but not IE even I received "Thanks You" Message. This issue is appeared only today.
How can I solve that?
Thanks. -
-
I am having the same issue. My extension will install in FF and Chrome, but not in IE, even though i am getting the "Thank You" message. I'm on Windows 7 with IE 9.0.8112. I am not a coder, I hired someone to make my extension. We are not sure if the problem is due to our inexperience with CrossRider, or if this is a problem many people are having. Any info on this problem in IE?
-
-
Michael,
If the thank you page had been opened on your IE then it means the extension was installed successfully.
To try to help us get to the bottom of your issue, please send to support@crossrider.com your extension ID with a short description of what its main functionalities are and how we can test it on our end.
We will take it from there.
Thanks. -

Hello Michael,
From your description, it seems that either the Notifications or Sidebar plugin would be more suited to your needs as popup always require the user to click a button. For more information, add the required plugin to your extension and review the example code provided.
Let me know if you need any further help with this. -

1Hello Michael,
In general, we recommend using appAPI.openURL to open windows, as follows:appAPI.ready(function($) {
appAPI.openURL({
url: "http://www.google.com",
where: "window"
});
});
Perhaps you can describe what you extension is trying to achieve? Have you checked the notifications plugin? or the Sidebar plugin? I think you will find that they will meet your needs better than opening a window. -
