How to programatically open the popup from extension context?
Looking for something like appAPI.browserAction.openPopup (the opposite of appAPI.browserAction.closePopup)
-
Hello Gideon,
In general, you simply set the popup using appAPI.browserAction.setPopup and click the button. If this isn't what you are after, perhaps you can explain what it is you are trying to achieve and I'll be happy to help. -

Hi Shlomo,
I'd like to open the popup from the extension code for certain pages. We feel that just updating the badge is not always enough. -
-
Hello Gideon,
The popup by design is only triggered by clicking the button and cannot be opened in any other way. However, you can use our Notifications plugins to display a message via the extension.js file. -

Hi Shlomo,
Thanks for the advice.
For consistency, we prefer to use the popup - the information we plan to display is the same, it's just that for some sites, we think it's more important for the user to see it.
Can we make this a feature request? -
-
Hello Gideon,
I forwarded the feature request to the powers that be and if it's technically possible they will consider it for inclusion in a future release. In the meantime, you can monitor changes to our framework via our changelog or subscribe to the changelog RSS feed. -

Hello Gideon,
Just a quick update. The dev team investigated the option and have determined that it is impossible to achieve this with Chrome. Hence, currently this option is not feasible. -
