Is there a way or plugin to log in to facebook from the extension?

I am developing an extension to allow users to login either with their email or facebook options. I have had difficulties with setting up the facebook login, either detect if there is an active facebook session or if not redirect to facebook login, ask them to sign in then redirect back to the extension.

Any help and/or guidance would be appreciated.
