javascript alert on every page load; 'messaging iframe'

I have a simple extension which records URL's users visit and periodically reports them to my website (I'm running a research study). Some users have reported a strange error every time they load or reload a page: they get what looks like a javascript alert, saying "reload: no messaging iFrame exists - we must create it!". I don't make any alerts like that, so I think I'm triggering an error from crossrider somehow?

On each page load/reload, the extension looks at a timestamp saved in the crossrider DB, and if the current time is beyond it, it sends a message to the background.

Extension ID 34094. Any help is greatly lappreciated - with this error, the users can't participate in my study.

Two users have reported this error now, both with

Browser: Firefox 21.0
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise, SP 1

Hello matt,

In general, I can confirm that our framework does not produce open any alerts, so this cannot be coming from the extension. The most likely scenario is that the users have another app installed, or that the page itself has an error. Can you provide specific URLs on which this occurs?

I haven't been able to reproduce the error myself to this point. I've asked my user to give me more details on the pages it occurs on (although I believe the answer is 'every page'), what extensions they have installed, their antivirus, and so on.

The alerts go away when they disable my extension.

It did occur on every page, including for example google.com. It seems to have been an issue with another extension. I'm not sure which - the user said they removed 'a bunch they didn't recognize' and the problem went away. Hm.

I guess that's it for now. If the problem occurs again I'll try to get a more detailed list of extensions from the user.

Have you read the thread above and checked that it isn't possible related to another extension?

I suggest you install and test the extension on a clean browser (i.e. no other extensions installed) and if the problem persists I need to take a closer look.

Therefore, please provide as much of the following information as possible and I will investigate:
1. The extension id
2. The file/line number where the code snippet can be found
3. Which browser/OS you are testing on
4. The exact steps for reproducing the problem
5. Any additional information such as URLs, videos, ... that will help identify the problem

no, have a look into firefox > addons > extensions and disable addons one-by-one until you find out which one is the culprit (a restart of firefox might be necessary after each step).

On my opinion the problem depends on the addon "Advanced SystemCare Surfing protection.
I disactivated it and the problem disappeared.

I found that the error pop-up "reload: no messagingIframe - we must create it" appears only when the addon

FTdownloader V6.0 0.93.59

is active. Deactivating it and restarting Mozilla Firefox, the problem disappears.
