meaning of terms and conditions: rights and title
In the T&C it mentions "All rights and title in the Code remain with you. Crosspath owns all right and title in the Extensions.". Does this mean that if a developer makes an extension that you then own it and can do what you want with it?
-
If the API is closed source and and T&C says that developers have no rights over the extension and it is owned by Crossrider, then Crossrider can do what it wants with the extension. So the extension could be doing things on a users computer though the Crossrider API (for instance sending user details etc.) that the developer is not aware of (though I suppose its possible to check this using the network tab of the browser debugger). In addition the developer could be unwittingly distributing this through the various browser stores in his name.
Anyway its just a thought, and I just think that developers need this question addressed -

1Hi Dave,
Thank you for your enquiry.
All code in the extension.js, background.js and resources added to the extension are the title, IP, and responsibility of the developer. However, the title and rights of the extension framework and extension as a whole remain the IP and ownership of Crossrider with the developer licensed to use and distribute extensions they create. This is a common model for software frameworks to retain the right to remove extensions and thereby protect users from abuse by potentially unscrupulous developers.
If you have any further questions, please email support@crossrider.com.-
Hi Shlomo
Just wondered if you could comment on my second question regarding the closed source Crossrider API and how developers can ensure that they are not distributing software with a hidden functionality that they wouldn't necessarily agree with to the users of their extension.
Cheers

Hello Dave,
Regarding the second question, it's pretty much like any framework you use in coding. We adhere to regulations and provide the supporting framework as-is which you use to build your extension, in much the same way you would do when compiling your code using a C++ compiler to build an executable.
I hope this answers your questions. Should you have any more, please feel free to email support@crossrider.com. -
