Not depressed, SUPPressed

How about the ability to suppress or temporarily turn off a segment within a ride?

With the little issue that I've run into of losing all of my images when copying a segment, I'm a bit hesitant to do that theses days. But as they say, if you change your warmup and your cooldown, your riders will think that you came up with a whole new playlist. (They can be a bit less observant once they get those endorphins flowing.)

By allowing us to activate/deactivate individual segments we could:
- Have flexible classes that we can easily reconfigure, rather than having dozens of classes that differ by only one or two segments.
- Have a 45 minute and 55 minute version of the same playlist (my studio has two different length classes during the week) rather than having two of every class. This goes back to the grouping and folders that I asked for previously.
- Decide when I see who shows up for class how much of a %&$^ I'm going to be and with a quick edit tick off/on however many Tabata segments they're going to suffer through that day. Bwahahaha! The POWER!!!
- Store extra segments in the class without having them show up in the profile.

Implementation:
Here are a few ideas of how it could be implemented.
To activate/deactivate a segment:
1) From the start screen, choose EDIT A CLASS.
2) Select the class that you would like to edit.
3) Click the EDIT button in the upper right corner.
4) Tick the checkbox next to each segment that you want to affect and choose the ENABLE button or the DISABLE button or the DELETE button.

You could also put a checkbox for each segment on the EDIT screen, but that might get a bit busy with the delete icon, an active checkbox and the reorder hamburger.

Another option would be to have an active bar or inactive segment corral where anything below the bar or in the holding pen/folder/area, would be inactive. So if I want to swap a segment in, I just go to EDIT, grab the hamburger on my inactive segment and drag it back into the playlist wherever I want it.

You could go one step further and include that same functionality in the cue screen as well, but I don't forsee me needing that level of detailed control.

From the class list (in edit mode) you can hold your finger on the class and select "duplicate" then modify the duplicate. I do this with some of the classes I use often - changing them slightly so folks won't get sick of them. Its not quite as compact as the method you describe but it works well.

  • I use the class duplicate function to accomplish this as well. If you want less segments, then in the new class go in and delete those segments. Note: If you are using Spotify as your musice source, you must also create a new playlist that reflects the reduced songs that you desire. The last step (if using Spotify) is to replace all of the music in the new class with your new (reduced) playlist.

  • Indeed, I spend a LOT of time using the duplicate class and duplicate segment.

    The problems are these:

    - I now have a MASSIVE amount of classes, most of which are very close to each other. This makes it not only unwieldy to scroll through the list, but difficult to keep track of which variant each class is, considering you only have the short class name to go on.

    - My studio offers 45 minute and 60 minute classes. So, for almost every class I have, I have two. My class list looks silly: MARCH INTERVALS (45), MARCH INTERVALS (60), MARCH INTERVALS W/TABATA (45), MARCH INTERVALS W/TABATA (60), ... and so on. With the ability to turn segments on and off, those four (and the other 28 variants thereof) could easily be one class.

    - I use a lot of images in my classes. And I have run into an issue where using COPY SEGMENT will cause all of the images in the original segment that i copied to go mysteriously missing. I've reported this, and it's a weird one, so I don't anticipate it being fixed anytime soon. So, I'm a bit hesitant to use the COPY SEGMENT function as I have in the past.

    - If I want to put extra segments in a class that I can swap in or skip, they still show up in the profile. I use a projector connected to my iPad, which I HIGHLY recommend, so this means that any extra segments are visible to my riders. If I put them at the end, people get confused why there's this big lull at Zone 1 Low for stretching, then another bunch of intervals.
