Planned Rides vs. Recommended Rides in Ride Buddy

In using Ride Journal Planner, as I set up my week's plan, I notice that the minutes I plan and the minutes Ride Journal recommends are different. I understand why they are different. But what I do not see in my Ride Buddy app once I upload is, after I select a ride, it does not give me the two options to select. One being what I planned and the other being what is recommended. I thought that was supposed to be seen in Ride Buddy. Can you clarify this?

    Hi Robert,

There are multiple possible answers to your question.

The first possibility: the values aren't different enough. The way it's currently implemented, RideBuddy only shows the difference if the ride total minus are more than 5 minutes different. It's possible to be radically rearranged on zones but if the planned and recommended totals match, RideBuddy will only show you your plan.

The second: The data downloaded from Ride Journal hasn't been updated yet. RideBuddy re-downloads planned/recommended data after each upload, but we've seen occasionally that Ride Journal hasn't finished recalculating soon enough. If this is what's happened to you, manually refreshing the planned ride list clears it up.

The third: It's always possible you're encountering something we're not aware of, which of course will require more investigation.

    Does this help?

    Thanks!

  • OK - good info. I understand these three possibilities and after today's WT ride, I went into Ride Journal and clicked on "Adjust this week" under the calendar and rechecked Ride Buddy and I now see two options under one of my rides this week. Does that all make sense?

It does make sense in general. RideJournal would have recalculated various bits and probably pushed the difference between planned and recommended beyond the buffer.

Generally speaking, you won't/shouldn't need to manually adjust like you did, but I'm unaware of any harm that comes from doing so.
